I mean the custom plate would be for me.. but my sister was saying like get a tray of vegan chicke”n piccata from like Cleveland vegan so it’s an option on the buffet (budget for wedding isn’t high so it won’t be a plated thing and may not even have hired caterers to serve- just chafing dishes across a big table) and my mom nixed that idea hard.

@Jenn Kraus that’s the plan- who knows my sister and her partner are very “unmotivated” for lack of a better term. I’d be shocked if the wedding actually happens next year bc they are like not really comprehending you need to secure a venue like now lol. There’s a reason AfroMan’s “because I got high” has been their ringtone for like 20 years and it’s still funny
Just joined (:
hey all. my name is meg (they/them), i live in pittsburgh, pa. i joined because i don’t have a vegan community & only one local vegan friend (that i know of). i’ve been in 12 step recovery in NA for almost 4 years now. it feels relevant because part of my core commitment to myself is to not cause harm to myself & to others. i have felt guilty & like a hypocrite for a long time for eating animals, but my relationship with food was so damaged that i did not trust myself or feel confident enough in my ability to know how to eat vegan in a way that was sustainable. and these days i am not interested in making commitments i can’t keep because it is too damaging to my self-esteem. i have been consistently training with progressive overload as the core principle for around 3 years. my body composition has changed in a meaningful way though i still feel like i have a long way to go to achieve the physique i desire. the area i have struggled most with is nutrition. i have consistently tracked food for probably close to 2 years now, but got more honest & diligent with it since the beginning of this year. i did not grow up cooking but have been practicing getting better with it for a few years & have come to really enjoy it. something switched in the past month for me, i think with following a few vegan bodybuilders including John on IG, & i realized there are multiple sources of high vegan protein that i can prepare & rely on consistently (that taste fucking good too), where i just had an awakening that i at least know enough about nutrition & food preparation that i feel i can commit to a vegan lifestyle. it makes me feel grounded to know i am doing this because of my values, not because of health, but that i can also confidently continue to work on my physique & performance while making this major change. i know this post is pretty long but i figured this is the one place that made the most sense to write about this, & i don’t really have people in my life i can talk to about it. my mom & my partner know, she has decided she wants to try it too. my partner still eats animals & animal products but does enjoy eating “plant-based.” when we visited Boston together recently it was his idea to eat at Veggie Galaxy.

@Meg Bell @Carli Gaetano hello from across the border in Youngstown!! Unfortunately I’ve gotta miss veg fest this weekend or I’d suggest that’s a great spot to meet up. Anyways if you’re going I suggest hitting up Village Farmacy’s booth- it’s a lil gem like 5 min from my house 100% vegan scratch kitchen- Kate and Joe run the place and are awesome people. It’s the spot to “cheat” on the meal plan for sure bc you gotta get some bakery. Would love to figure out a meet up in the future- I’m definitely short on the “real life” vegan friend dept lol
Non vegan folk struggles
How do y’all deal with non vegans? I’ve dealt with them since 2014( I was merely vegetarian back then but the struggle wasn’t all that different) and at this point I’m really losing all my patience. I’ve had the same conversations a million times, had to explain myself again and again, and of course the worst part sitting there and having to watch them eat animal products even though you have given every reason under the sun why they don’t need them. Dating is one thing- I simply can’t date someone long term who isn’t vegan; exceptionally would be someone who I can get to make the switch. This is not an unreasonable expectation but it’s beginning to stem into all of my relationships. It’s pushing into my friendships now. No one is willing to even go to a vegan restaurant or they act like babies at the idea of even eating a vegan meal. I’m lucky at least that it is possible to eat vegan at most places but my desire to eat out with them is diminishing and sometimes I genuinely just want to call quits and find new people altogether. Family is not as big a deal since I don’t have much family anyway but get togethers just suck. Everyone is so picky about their food unwilling to eat anything that’s vegan cuz of their bias and eating together isn’t even an enjoyable experience anymore. Would appreciate any input or advice. 🙌🏽

It’s hard, especially with people you are really close with (and all my friends/family claim to love animals) so it’s super frustrating when they think you’re crazy or roll their eyes over my veganism. But as years pass I’ve noticed most of my friends and family getting a lot better about it (I even recently went to a baby shower for a friend I hadn’t seen in years and she went out of her way to make sure there were multiple dishes for me and even made little labels on the counter) there’s still struggles for sure especially with my mother and one aunt who find it to be a personal attack that I still “won’t eat their food” . I recently went on a trip with one of my best friends from college who’s becoming a yoga instructor. She was super cool about going to vegan spots with me and sharing meals- she has dietary restrictions due to health so is GF and DF (but she also says some ignorant shit like “I’d eat a whole cow and give it to me still mooing” like trying to be funny) and at one point we were hiking and talking about her wanting to go shopping at this Tibetan store the next day to pick up some stuff she wanted for her new yoga practice and she starts going on how she practices ahimsa. I immediately blurt out “no you fucking don’t!” and she got really upset started saying some animals are meant to be eaten- we argue to the point where she sped up and went to the car. I enjoyed the rest of the hike and let her stew in the parking lot and we didn’t talk about it again. Idk it’s just so weird psychologically when you actually see “behind the curtain” and wish the people around you can see it too and you try to explain but it feels like the entire world is trying to gaslight you. I also agree with you on never dating a non-vegan. I couldn’t do it- I’m too old to even think “I can change them” works anymore lol.

I’m tied up this afternoon- but I’m sure it will be awesome!
Saturday yoga
Link not working. It just takes to an older prerecorded session. Is this not a live class class anymore or is the link just bad?
