🌞 Is anyone working on charts?!
Good morning, friends! Be sure to head over to the Classroom tab, where you'll find: - An example of a completed chart - A sample of what the click track for your chart will sound like - A completed track Reminder: You'll need one chart per song, per instrument in your show. Have a great day, and let me know if you have any questions!

Not charts exactly, being a magician. I do however have all of my music and screens ready to go inside my show control app. I control the cues from a single button in my pocket.
Happy Monday 🌟 Checking in!
What shows are you currently working on for your cruise performances? 🚢🎤 ✨Tell us a little bit about them in the comments - what’s the concept, what makes it unique? I’ll start ⬇️

I have 2 magic shows I'm working on. I'm alternating performing them from theater to theater and getting them both recorded for sizzle reel and submission material. My first show I call Mixtape Magic. The name was coined by a magician friend during a zoom call jam session. The theme is my start in magic, and the vibes from that time period - 90s. Interactive magic, personal story telling. Comedy and lighthearted routines. I get the whole audience involved throughout the show. My second show I call Real Magic. This is my natural evolution in my magic journey. The tricks and routines are more grounded in realism and depth. My goal is to leave the audience questioning, is there real magic? As a backup, I have a 3rd show that is bare bones. It requires minimal props and can fit in my carry on, just in case my main shows get lost in transit to the ship.

@Martina Long Thank you for that! It's so encouraging to get positive feedback! It helps me know that I'm doing something right. I'm super excited, and impatient, to get these video submission materials together! I plan on purchasing some of your coaching services soon to really fine tune my show, my process and my submission materials.
STCW Basic Safety Training
As I'm learning more about the back end aspects of headlining on a ship, I'm seeing STCW as a possible requirement? Is this something that cruise lines mandate?

@Martina Long Thank you! Does the agency you work with require it? I plan on submitting my promo materials to you and your agency.
Magicians?
One quick question: I heard during one of the live sessions that your primary focus is working with vocalists. However, I've also seen references to magicians and other variety entertainers being invited to submit material for consideration. As a magician pursuing cruise ship opportunities, I just wanted to make sure I'm in the right place and that the training and feedback offered here are applicable to variety acts as well. Thank you @Martina Long

@Martina Long Thank you for the detailed response! Very helpful. I do have (2) 45 minute shows, a passport with many years left and I use screens extensively in my show both for graphics as well as IMAG, where I show more close up type magic projected onto the screen so the whole audience can see. I have one routine where I involve the entire audience to interact with the screen! A very cool moment for sure. I also use carefully selected music to go with certain effects I perform. I'm in the process of securing a videographer to record my show. Knowing what the end result needs to be, sizzle reels, 10 minute clip....what instructions should I give the videographer? If you were coordinating that, what would you tell him? Also, I have seen many headliner shows on board various cruise lines, magicians and solo comedians. Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. You mention the need for 2 completely different shows, but I attended every show from each performer and the magicians all had the same show at the 7pm and the 9:30pm. The comedians all had only slightly different shows, with minor adjustments to some jokes. The only show considerably different was the late night adult comedy show. Does that mean the 2nd show is rarely needed or performed? Is it just a back up? I have read that the 2nd show is simply there just in case the CD needs to fill another spot last minute.

Hello everyone, My name is Brian Rodgers, and I'm a magician from Maine. Although I've performed magic for many years, I recently returned to the stage after a long break and am currently focused on building and refining a full evening theater show. My show, MixTape Magic, combines magic, storytelling, humor, audience interaction, and themes centered around memory and perception. In addition to performing, I've spent years designing and building illusions for other magicians. One of my projects was featured through a collaboration involving Bad Robot Productions and JJ Abrams., which was a particularly exciting experience. My current focus is gaining more theater experience, strengthening my promotional materials, and creating a strong video package. My ultimate goal is to become a headliner guest entertainer on cruise ships and build a long-term career performing at sea. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here, gaining insight into the cruise entertainment industry, and connecting with fellow performers who are on a similar path. Thanks for having me!
