Instrumentals and charts
Hey Martina, question for ya. If you want to have instrumentals(for Cruiselines who use tracks), and you also have charts, do they have to be exact? Same show, same songs, but the structure of a song might be different from the track and chart.

Nope, they don’t have to match! You can even play with adding new songs in your sets if you feel that they work better for the theme of your show or you just want to try new things! You just wouldn’t be able to change your show entirely because that is what the bookers booked you for :)

🌞 Is anyone working on charts?!
Good morning, friends! Be sure to head over to the Classroom tab, where you'll find: - An example of a completed chart - A sample of what the click track for your chart will sound like - A completed track Reminder: You'll need one chart per song, per instrument in your show. Have a great day, and let me know if you have any questions!

@Brian Rodgers Hi Brian, I just confirmed with the agent I recruit for, who also happens to be a magician! He said that Carnival is the only cruise line that doesn't allow the use of that due to a new policy they recently rolled out prohibiting external tech sourcing! On Norwegian last week he used SoloPro without any issues, so you should be all good! I would just have a contingency plan in place for the occasional Carnival gig (or if other lines decided to roll this out) where you wouldn't be able to use it! Also, keep in mind that on Carnival you only need one 45-minute show, performed at 7:00 PM & 9:00 PM. It's pretty rare for them to request a second show. Because you won't be able to rely on QLab or SoloPro for them, I'd recommend using the show that's the simplest to run and requires the least amount of technical maintenance or cueing. That way, if you do end up on a Carnival ship, you'll have a version that's easy to execute without those tools :)

🎭 If you don’t know where to film your promo reel…
Here’s an idea! 💡 - Reach out to your local community theatre. - Tell them you'd love to put on a free public show. - Let them know all you need is the venue and their tech team. - Offer to let them keep the ticket sales (or work out a deal that benefits everyone). - Then get that show professionally filmed with an audience - The only cost is your videographer Here's the reality... Most bookers are hiring you based on one video. That single piece of content can be the difference between getting passed over and getting the gig. If investing a little upfront gets you a bad-ass promo reel that books, it's one of the highest investments you can make. Get 👏 that 👏 footage 👏 (with a live audience if possible)

Filming
I think I'm still a little confused when it comes to the material required to submit for GE shows. I know it varies from agent to agent but what is the best approach when getting footage? should you have the whole show filmed? just a 10 minute best bits? a 2 minute promotional reel? or all of the above?

Hi Alisha, Of course, I always like to preface this by saying you'll want to double-check with the agency you're scouting for. That said, in my experience, all you typically need is a 2–3 minute promo (sizzle) reel. If you want to be considered for Royal Caribbean, they also require both the sizzle reel and a 10-minute unedited cut of your show. I actually heard for the first time recently that a smaller, lesser-known agency was requesting performers submit their full 45-minute show. Honestly, with all due respect to the performers, agencies generally don't have the time to watch an entire show unless you're working directly with a coach or mentor who is reviewing your material in depth. If you were able to get your full show professionally filmed, that's fantastic! The videographer onboard or the ship's tech team have an overall recording they can provide. But if not, it's usually just the sizzle reel and for Royal Caribbean specifically, the additional 10-minute unedited cut that's required. As for your second show, if you can get a sizzle reel, that would be great as well, even if it means going on stage, performing different songs to make it look like you have a full reel (my insider tip of the day!), and acting like you did it for a full audience if you’re not able to do it live. But it’s not typically required to have a reel for second show, but I do think that it can help your case when applying to agencies!
