Arcade games and the C64
The C64 and arcade conversions have been linked since its very inception after all its first recognised game Jupiter Lander was a clone of Lunar Lander. Which were the best arcade conversations & which were the worst? which arcade games were you most looking forward to being converted to the 64 and were you happy or disappointed with the result? Which arcade game did you wish had been converted and wasn’t? Which arcade games did you only find out about after playing it on the 64? And were there any 64 conversions that were actually better than the arcade game they were taken from? I’ll start with Green Beret. I had never played this in the arcade but thought it was amazing on the 64. After the advent of MAME and finally getting to play the arcade version I actually think the 64 version is better.

I spotted a "go live" option which I have as the group owner, could be fun for things I have planned down the line...

C64 to Amiga
Well I have to ask the question. Did anybody on this site, sell their C64 or put their C64 away and they bought an Amiga of some sort. I got the A600 with a massive 32meg hard disk (LOL) installed. I got fed up of the Amiga, I just found it boring. Went out after and got a C64 as well. Sold the Amiga 600. Always wanted a BBC B computer but at that time they were out of my price range, people were selling them for over 600 quid each. Now I have 3 BBC B's got them at decent prices. I went the way of a 386 PC but kept the faithful C64. Now got 3 of them with all gadgets attached to them. Recently bought a C64 and BBC mug with my name on them. Never forgotten the old machines. Still love to power them up and use them, even better in colour.

Do you have a fond memory or story around a C64 game?
I would love to hear any stories or fond memories or a particular game. I remember going on a family trip to Torquay (UK), and on one of the days my Dad took me to John Menzies (large newsagent / stationery shop) and they had a GREAT computer game section. I loved Way of the Exploding Fist and at this stage, didn't even realise there was a sequel. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the cover of Fist 2, and read the description on the back over and over again, which didn't go unnoticed by my Dad. Eventually he said "ok, put it back, we need to go soon, have a quick look around the store and then we'll go". Later, when we were back at the hotel, my Dad handed me a bag, I opened it and Fist 2 was inside!!!! The only problem was now I had to wait until the end of the holiday to play it 😂. I know it got a luke warm review in some mags but I LOVED it!! The photo is of my original which I will always treasure.

What was the first game you ever bought for your C64
My first game was Super Pipeline by Taskset. As soon as I knew I was getting my 64 I went into my local computer store and managed to pick this up for the princely sum of £1.99. When I got home I loaded it up only to find it had no fast loader and took 12 minutes to load! Despite that this is a great arcade style game with brilliant for the time music. Taskset games were so quirky with a very British feel. Still a great game I load up and play regularly (but with faster loading 😊)
