I had an experience with my girlfriend yesterday afternoon while we were in the car about to plan for a place to go out to eat. I had my phone ping mid-conversation, and it was a text message from my mom. And she took a one-second peek at the notification that was sent. Little did I know, this would immediately trigger her into deep frustration. She saw the little "😘" emoji, and didn't know the context of who sent it and why it was sent. Before ever deciding to dismiss her feelings, I wanted to hold space for her to share what was going deep within her. She vocalized about how traumatizing her past relationships were for her. She experienced manipulation, cheating, and affairs, which jaded her from seeing what an actual, healthy relationship looked like. So I let her voice her deep frustrations to me. She said she wasn't mad at me or upset with me, but she was upset with herself for allowing this to happen. But my response to her was that none of that was her fault. She put the blame on herself, but I removed that blame in the moment so that she wouldn't relive that shame. After that, I wanted to make sure this was a collaborative effort to ensure how I can continue to build trust with her, so that these triggers don't occur as frequently. I literally saw her go from crying and genuinely frustrated, to beaming with joy in 5 minutes from that interaction. And that was everything to me! This was put into practice the same day I consumed the Attunement classroom material, particularly "How to Share Anger in a Loving Way". This training can be applied across any domain. Hi friends I’m SO excited to say that I shared the Day of Learning proposal with my son’s elementary school at the PTA meeting. We will be looking to get it approved and get the day scheduled. We discussed possibly a 2 hour time after school ends. This is a massive dream come true. Fingers crossed we get it approved and scheduled sooner than later!

I'm going through more Attunement Training in STEP 4: TRANSFORM, and in the Roles workshop training, I made an immediate connection when it talks about Parental Narcissism being the primary cause of children mental illness. Particularly when it comes to "Rescue" Narcissism. "Rescue" Narcissists are nurturers that steal problems from the receiver, because there is no trust. I loved an example of Finding Nemo that demonstrates the direct opposite effect: When Nemo initially entered the fish tank, he was in a panic and wanted to swim away to find his dad. And during his panic, he was caught in a suction tube that trapped him. But Gill, the leader of the group, chose not to help him, but give ownership of the problem to Nemo. "You got yourself in, you can get yourself out" I thought this was a powerful lesson. Because children need agency and problem ownership, as it creates resiliency. When you rob that of the child, they grow an inability to handle problems that will inevitably come to them. Great lessons @Dr. Adena Blickstein :)
