Automatic vs. Quartz — Which Side Are You On?
Fellow watch lovers, it's time for the debate that never gets old. ⌚⚔️ Two technologies. Two philosophies. Two very different kinds of passion. AUTOMATIC (MECHANICAL): A tiny universe of hundreds of hand-finished components, moving in perfect harmony, powered by nothing but the motion of your wrist. Every automatic watch is a mechanical miracle — a daily reminder that human ingenuity can create beauty without a battery. There's a reason collectors obsess over these. QUARTZ — Don't sleep on quartz. It's more accurate, requires less maintenance, and some of the most iconic watches ever made — the Seiko 5, the Grand Seiko Snowflake, the Rolex Oysterquartz — run on quartz movements. Your watch actually keeps time, and it never needs winding. The real question isn't just technical — it's philosophical: Is wearing a mechanical watch a romantic act of defiance against the digital age… or is quartz the smarter, more practical choice for a man who needs to be on time? Pick your side 👇 and defend it in the comments. Roast the other camp respectfully — this is a gentleman's debate after all. 😄

I wear smartwatches and mechanical watches. Love both types. But there’s something about a mechanical watch. The workings, the craftsmanship that goes into them. For me, it’s like when I switched to using fountain pens. There’s an elegance to it, that even if I’m the only one that feels it, it makes me happier.

@Andre Montgomery my thoughts exactly. Sitting down with a mechanical watch on, opening a nice quality journal and writing with a fountain pen just gives me a feeling of slowing down and truly enjoying life

Gentlemen, I am definitely a watch guy. I have a seiko fifty-five fathoms and a Seiko SKX-009. Quite a few others on the list but I find myself using my Apple Watch Ultra 2 on a daily basis so I can track my daily numbers. This is mostly due to recent health related events that I’m taking care of. Now for date nights and events I do wear my real watches. Can anyone suggest a band or strap to make my daily work watch look better? I have it on an alpine loop but the apple bands are just so expensive. Thank you very much.

@Justin Tillery I like the health tracking it does but I love my mechanical watches and want to add a couple more to the collection. Might wear it for work and workouts while switching to mechanical for days off and evenings

Getting a check up
I was debating the idea about taking my Borealis diving. My horologist had suggested that we do a pressure test first. Glad we did. There was a tiny bubble at 99 feet (3 atm) simulated pressure. SO I borrowing my son’s Casio to dive (with a fresh battery) and will be fly fishing with the Borealis. When I get back I’ll get the seals replaced. It’s so nice to have a great horologist so close.
