3 reasons why we don't do the thing
You know That Thing you KNOW you should be doing in your business? (Emailing your list. Posting in your community. Launching that offer. Raising your prices. Finishing the thing you've been working on for the past three quarters… 😅) And yet… you're not doing it. Before you decide you just need to try harder, it's worth figuring out WHY you're resisting it! Because in my experience, we resist things for one of three reasons: 𝟭. 𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 You genuinely don't have the time, energy, attention, money, or other resources for it right now. That's legit. Sometimes the plan simply needs to change to fit your actual season of life. 𝟮. 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 You could do it… but something doesn't fit. Maybe you're following a business rule you don't agree with. Maybe it doesn't match your strengths or zone of genius. Maybe the goal itself isn't even something you want anymore! Resistance is information. 𝟯. 𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 So, this one's different. You desperately want the result. You actually have reasonable capacity for it. It fits where you're trying to go. And yet… you avoid it. (And often we even SAY we have Capacity or Misalignment issues, when reeeaaally it's Avoidance… 👀) 👉 This is where I start looking for Mind Monsters. 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻…) 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀.We all have them, and we often don't know they're running the show behind the scenes, holding us back. So, if there's something you've been resisting lately, don't immediately assume you need more discipline. Ask yourself: Is this Capacity? Misalignment? Or Avoidance? And if it's Avoidance… you might want to meet your Mind Monsters. 👀 I made a free Field Guide showing you the four Mind Monsters, how they show up in your business, and one small move you can make to tame each one: 👉https://mindmonsters.thebluebellgroup.com/ Then come back and tell me which one(s) you recognize!

New Series: Behind the Scenes Business Startup
My 6-year-old and I are starting a new business! (Don't worry, my Squirrel Wrangler said it was ok! 😜) It’s called Olive & Grey, and we’re going to make and sell our art (starting on Etsy, then who knows). This started because Greyson and I have been making more art together, and he’s fascinated by the idea of selling it, and I realized… why not let him experience what it actually looks like to build something from an idea? Homeschool project! Because I’m building this one from absolute zero, I thought it would be fun to bring you behind the scenes and show you the actual business decisions as I make them: what I prioritize, what I skip, what works, what doesn’t, and why (lessons that are helpful for any kind of business). Basically, Olive & Grey is becoming our tiny real-life business case study. Tentative launch date is October 1st, and there's a lot to do, so for the next 3 weeks, I'll share an update and lessons learned each Monday. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳! @Olivia Radcliffe thank you!! I am sure my daughter would chat with her if she had any questions! She even has her own YouTube channel now too! Also, have her check out tywi.org it is a free program for writers that my daughter did over the summer run by college kids.

State thrashing
Picture this. You sit down to work and realize you have five different tasks that need to get done. So you open your project management tool and start sorting them by importance. While you're in there, you realize you forgot some subtasks. So you add those. Then you get an email about a summit you want to participate in, so you add the application deadline and everything you'll need to do for that. You look up an hour later at your beautifully organized list and feel like you've been really productive. Except... you haven't actually crossed a single thing off of it. 😬 There's a computer science concept for this called state thrashing. Basically, a system can get so overwhelmed deciding what to work on and switching between tasks that it spends more resources MANAGING the work than actually DOING the work. Sound familiar? 😅 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: When the system is overloaded, the solution is to STOP trying to perfectly organize everything, and START processing. Grab the first thing that you can cross off the list and DO IT. Don't get me wrong - there absolutely is value in planning, organizing, and prioritizing. But at some point, if you're dealing with state thrashing, you have to stop sorting the work... and do the work. Thoughts?
