a decision tree of choices depending on circumstances, e.g. my data is coming from an IOT device, I want to connect to the device and read the data in real time and the user wants real time analytics. What software decision do I make at ingestion, storage, model, analytics point?

I've been in and around data for quite a while. I was principally a SQL Dev, but then moved more into BI and DW work about 15 years ago.
