🇨🇳 The AI Race Just Got More Interesting
Two Chinese AI companies released frontier models last week that they say can compete with the best from OpenAI and Anthropic. And they're giving them away for free. Moonshot launched Kimi K3 ... a massive model with 2.8 trillion parameters. They say it only trails OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and Anthropic's Claude Fable 5. Alibaba followed with Qwen3.8 Max at 2.4 trillion parameters, claiming it's second only to Claude Fable 5. Here's what makes this different from the usual AI announcements. Both companies are making these models fully open-source. That means any developer in the world can download them, modify them, and build new tools on top of them. While the big US labs mostly keep their best models locked behind paid subscriptions, China is betting on giving theirs away. Demand for Kimi K3 was so high that Moonshot had to temporarily stop accepting new users ... they literally ran out of computing capacity. A few things that stood out to me: - The gap between the best open-source and closed-source models is getting smaller - More competition means better AI tools at lower prices for everyone - Open-source models give smaller companies and developers access to capabilities that used to be locked behind expensive APIs America still has big advantages in chips and investment. But the lead is narrower than most people realise. Do you think open-source AI will win out over closed models in the end? Or will the big US labs stay ahead? 👇

@Mark Wickersham Thank you for the information, very helpful as always. It all lays on the privacy and security for me. The fact that we use client’s PII is what makes me be doubtful about free access software.
🎬 New video: Claude Team Plan now starts at just 2 seats
If you've ever thought Claude was too expensive to run for your firm ... this changes things. There's been a lot of confusion about whether Claude's Team plan needs a minimum of five seats or two. I set one up to get you the real answer ... and it's now just two. That finally makes it competitive with ChatGPT's business plan for solo and small firms. In the video I walk you through: - The real minimum, and why the pricing page confuses everyone - How to set up a Team plan, step by step - The important catch: it creates a new account, so your existing projects and chats don't carry over - Why your old Pro plan keeps auto-renewing until you cancel it Watch it here: https://youtu.be/vVzLXUEgwv8?si=OwCKV8rTsWeb0Ep_ Have you moved to a Team plan yet, or still weighing it up? 👇

@Mark Wickersham thank you, I am going to use your link and take a look at that today.
🚨 OpenAI just released GPT-5.6 ... should accountants care?
Big news this week. OpenAI has launched a new set of AI models called GPT-5.6. There are three versions. Sol is the most powerful, Terra is the balanced everyday one, and Luna is the fast, low-cost option. They've also started rolling out "ChatGPT Work", a workspace that connects to your apps and files and can build documents and presentations from a single prompt. Why this matters for accountants: - More capable models usually mean more of the fiddly admin work can be handed off - Having a cheap, fast option and a powerful one lets you pick the right tool for the job - The pace isn't slowing down ... staying curious is now part of the job I'll be honest with you ... I haven't tested any of this yet, and I'd take the bigger claims with a pinch of salt until we've seen it work on real accounting tasks. New and impressive doesn't always mean useful. So here's my question for you 👇 When you hear "another new AI model just dropped" ... are you excited, exhausted, or a bit of both? Drop one word below.

Both for sure! Thank you @Mark Wickersham for the information always helpful and appreciated 😃
🎥 How to Use Claude in Chrome
Most people use Claude by typing into a chat window. But there's a Chrome extension that lets Claude actually see your screen, click buttons, browse websites, and work across tabs. It's like having a virtual assistant sitting beside you ... doing the boring browser work you hate. I've just recorded a full walkthrough and I'm sharing it here so you can see what's possible. In the video I cover: ✅ Setting up the extension and choosing the right model ✅ The approval settings that keep you in control ✅ A live demo of Claude browsing Amazon and finding products that match specific criteria ✅ How tab grouping controls what Claude can see ✅ The Teach Claude feature where you record a workflow and Claude learns to repeat it ✅ Scheduling tasks so they run automatically every day or week ✅ Security tips including prompt injection and why it matters The bit that blew my mind ... I taught Claude to review my Skool membership requests every morning. It checks for spam, looks at whether applicants are accountants, and approves or leaves them for me. I set it up once. Now it just runs. 👇 The video is below 👇 Have you tried the Claude Chrome extension yet? If so, what did you use it for? And if not ... what's the first thing you'd want it to do for you? 👇
