Naturally, after reading this discussion I was reminded to an interesting fact. Knowing our neighbours gives us peaceful coexistence. Great musicians and bands in Transylvania served the needs sometimes of several villages and their inhabitants. I am thinking Hungarian, Szasz, Romanian, Gypsy. Seldom even played Jewish tunes. Played to accompany their dances and participated in major life events. Learned their neighbours movements, habits and the intricacies of their life. Ensuring peaceful coexistence, mutual respect. Becoming natural ambassadors between cultures. This behaviour also produced cross pollination in music and dance. Giving us unexpected invaluable results. Romanian people kept their archaic dances and tunes longer than Hungarians. Imbedded in their music some ancient Hungarian tunes that we forgot. Researching, analyzing our neighbours songs and instrumental music produced wonderful discoveries.
