🐕‍🦺 Service Dog Manners in the Grocery Store
The Meat Section! Dogs have an incredible sense of smell… and let’s be honest, one of their favorite smells in the world is meat 🍖 🥩 So when a service dog walks past the meat section at a grocery store, it can be a very tempting situation. But a well-trained service dog learns something very important: Ignore the food and stay focused on the handler! No: • Sniffing • Licking • Jumping • Trying to investigate the shelves Instead, the dog should be calmly walking with their handler and checking in for guidance. In this video, you’ll see Saffy the black lab doing exactly that — walking past the meat section while staying focused and ignoring the food!🐕‍🦺 Great job, Saffy and handler @Julie Kelley Training moments like this help build reliability so service dogs can confidently accompany their handlers anywhere they’re needed. 💬 Question for you: If your dog could choose one aisle in the grocery store to live in, which one would it be? 😂🐾

I really this post among all the teachings of how to work best with your dog in different environments and then different scenarios. The black La did awesome and a great way to always connect with your dog and have them connect to you.!
Dog/ family member
I made a mistake in the block. I just posted. I wrote when I get her as my dog. Whatever dog I get. I will love unconditionally, no judgment, unlocks, or anything else that one sees. A male dog or a female dog, it doesn’t matter the dog will be my family, my daughter or son that I could never have. The dog will teach me thing, I will learn from the dog, and I will do my best to take care of the dog. I love Learning about what everybody is doing with their dog, and I love learning about everything I can do for my dog. I can’t stand scene people with dogs that have no idea how to be a parent to a dog. Anyways, I wish everybody well and I wish all you for family well as well.

@Julie Kelley I love your message , and I believe so much in what you said. I had my first cancer when I was 11 years old and that took away my ability to have children. I have such a love for dogs and have been a teacher most of my life. dogs are my kids as well, and as their mom, I want to give them the best I can cause I know how much they love me in return and I love them and we help each other. I wish you and Saffy the best.⭐️
Food
I can’t wait to put a doggy backpack together for her when I get my dog and take my dog anywhere that I need that. I really enjoyed about learning the different things that you should pack. My question is what are good healthy treats for a dog that you recommend. I am always reading labels and ingredients and the treats I buy to have on hand for when I have my father‘s dog visit me and stay with me for a few days. That leads me to think about food. I am also very interested in finding out the different foods. People are feeding their service dogs and what they recommend as far as good food goes and good treats. Thank you, Astrid.

@Julie Kelley thank you so much for the information 😁
🐕‍🦺 Humans get bored. So do Service Dogs!
When we’re at a doctor’s appointment, therapy session, long meeting, or waiting room… what do we do? We scroll. We check email. We zone out for a minute. Meanwhile, our service dogs are lying quietly beside us, possibly napping 😴 — doing exactly what we’ve trained them to do. But they’re still dogs. Bringing an appropriate chew to a long appointment is not “spoiling” your dog — it’s thoughtful handling. A quiet, long-lasting chew can: • Help with duration work • Prevent restlessness • Lower stress • Make public access smoother for everyone Your dog works hard for you. Packing their go-bag with something appropriate for long waits is just fair! Structured enrichment is part of responsible handling. Small detail. Big difference 🙌 Ps. Thank you Saffy and @Julie Kelley for this great example!

I really like this ! I don’t have a service dog yet, but I believe this is an excellent idea to pack things to occupy your dog when you’re at something such as any kind of an appointment where the dog has to wait. I get bored and fidgety, stressed in a chair when can’t move for a long time, such as listening to a lecture, sitting in the waiting room for a long time or such. I would want to make my dog as comfortable as possible.
Saffy’s back to public training!
Saffy is officially cleared from her spay recovery with the Dr’s order to go back to training/working!! Ya!!! James is away where he could not take Saffy and my Dad and I went to Home Depot so we took Saffy since it was later in the evening and the store would be quiet. Turns out they just got a truck so they were moving pallets everywhere. She got a little scared and hid but never tried to flee and did not get all shaky. I noticed the little bit of fear and made her sit and watch the noise and quickly rewarded her calmer behavior with praise and treats, then we checked out the pallet that was just placed! We walked around and she did awesome. I had to work on heel because she was excited and wanted to get a head. We stopped to look at cabinet handles and she actually kicked her hip out! So proud of how calm she was. She of course she got lots of praise and a jack pot level of treats!🤩🥳. I focused on her and not videos but did get a picture of the super calm down with me stepped away.
