Finding carriers — Learn how experienced dispatchers find legitimate owner-operators and build relationships with carriers. 3. Rate negotiation — Pay close attention to how dispatchers negotiate with brokers and shippers to improve rates without losing the load. 4. Load-board strategies — Learn how others use DAT and other load boards, especially for dry vans and Texas lanes like Dallas–San Antonio, Houston, Austin, and Laredo. 5. Networking and mentorship — Look for experienced dispatchers who are willing to answer questions, review your approach, and share what actually works—not just people trying to sell you another course.
