Closing the Society
Hi friends, this week I’ll be archiving The Society. I'm simplifying my life and fully focusing on my Coaching Program community. Right now they are thriving and deserve my full attention. My vision for this group was always bigger than image sharing. I wanted to build a collaborative community with me, other Pros, and members who wanted to break out of the social media paradigm of vanity, likes and follows. I wanted to create a community built on conversations and relationships, online and offline. To keep that vision alive would require many hours of teaching, support, and collaboration, and right now, I simply don’t have the time (or resources) to sustain it. I plan to have an oil painting focused community soon. That is the next stage in my evolution so I will dedicate my hours and labor to this new chapter in my life. If you are interested in that, please follow me on my new website (I will start writing beautiful articles there again) and join my free email list. That is where I will do my teaching and guiding for now. Thank you for being part of this. Skool is still in it's infancy, but I know it will become as mainstream as Facebook. As censorship of nude figurative art and beautiful realism as a whole continues to rise, the mass of artists like me will eventually migrate here. So thank you for being a pioneer with me. To those who resonate with me and align with my mission to build a sanctuary for beauty online I hope to meet you again. Much love and peace be with you until we meet again.❤️🤝

Bali Statue Gouache Painting
Hi everyone, This is my first post in the community. I wanted to share this in connection to the War on Beauty post. I took a photograph of this statue ten years ago when I traveled to Asia for a month. This is in Ubud, Bali. I always thought it would be a great painting, and I have many other photos that I'm working on paintings from that trip. Finally, ten years later! It's 12" X 12" in gouache. There's one WIP progress shot here before the final. I found Bali to be a beautiful place with all of the mossy and bizarre statues and architecture.

Gouache Portrait of Acting Teacher
Hi everyone, This is my first post in the group. I just wanted to share a portrait I did recently. It's of my acting teacher and I gave it to her as a gift. 9"X 12" in gouache.

The comparison trap vs. the creative process
Sometimes while browsing outstanding artists’ work on IG, I feel like I’ll never reach that level of imagination, skill, or technique. I wonder: Where do they get their ideas? How did they apply this technique? Why did they choose that color or composition? It can feel a bit discouraging—like I’m just a tiny drop in a huge ocean of creativity! Of course, these artists also inspire me and encourage me to create and try new things. But at the same time, the sheer amount of talent can feel overwhelming. I remember listening to Loish in a podcast with Proko, and what she said really stayed with me: comparing yourself to others only drags you down—instead, focus on creating and enjoying the process. That’s what I’m trying to do. Do you ever feel the same? How do you overcome these feelings? Here are a couple of master studies I did 2 years ago after Alex Raymond, from Scuttle Watch (1941). I loved exploring his line work and storytelling—so fun and full of life! Materials: brush pen, ballpoint pen, and fineliner on Moleskine paper.

You may like to read, "Becoming an Artist,' by Ellen Langer. I'm halfway through. She talks a lot about the ways we evaluate our work based on what other people think or say, and how it's important to remember that people are part of the equation. There is no objective good or bad. Great, famous artists were once criticized as being terrible, later to be admired and thought brilliant. People choose based on context and conditioning. The book has some interesting insights that explore our comparisons, judgments, what we enjoy about the process and how to enjoy it more.
