How to use this community 1. INTRODUCE YOURSELF Copy this format and comment below: - your name - where you're from - your musical background - what you're trying to achieve in your playing 2. START LEARNING If you are new to jazz, take my "5 Days To Improv" challenge. Its a free course that helps you make your first steps into jazz improv. Learning the ropes and delving into how a jazz musician thinks, practises and plays. If you really want to progress, you can get hold of the larger paid courses in there too "Jazz Violin Fundamentals", "10 Tunes You Must Know", "46 Lines", "Mastering Chromatics" 3. KEEP A PRACTISE DIARY Head over to the pinned Practise Diaries thread and drop your first check-in. It could be something from a 1-1, something from Practice Club, or just whatever you're working on that day. It's the easiest way to keep showing up in here, and every like you get on a check-in is a point towards levelling up and unlocking more of the material. BONUS There's a poll below this post. Let me know what you're most interested in improving in your playing, it helps me shape the material in here

Hi everyone! I'm Ann Vancoillie from Ghent, Belgium. I'm First Violin, Second Soloist with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. My background is classical, with a Master’s degree in Violin, Chamber Music and Pedagogy, ...but my passion for improvisation inspired me to return to the Royal Conservatory to complete a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Violin, which I graduated from in 2024. After my jazz degree, I continued studying with Eva Slongo and Tim Kliphuis. I'm also the founder of Jazz Line Lab, an online community dedicated to jazz language and improvisation, and I teach violin technique in Eva Slongo’s Jazz Violin Academy. I was drawn to Matt’s school after seeing his short videos on Facebook and Instagram. They immediately gave me many new ideas and made me curious to explore his approach more deeply. My goal is to work on a double time virtuosic jazz language in which I can fully use my classical technique. I'm especially interested in bebop vocabulary, enclosures, advanced phrasing and building fluent, expressive and technically free improvisations. Here are two recent projects: 🎻 A duo performance with guitarist Rafael Maillet https://www-fallback.instagram.com/raphael.maillet/reel/DaDiHLZOshp/, https://youtu.be/Y0vBq4Eh4iQ?si=jdiI_baILhtu7E5J 🎶 The latest single by Corda Viva: https://open.spotify.com/album/3EAQVZK916wlak00xD9Clj?si=oZn4w0BjTCCvM4IRqF0sSw I'm looking forward to learning from Matt, meeting everyone here and exchanging ideas.
