Feedback on 12 bar blues, newish licks
I recently picked up three or four new blues licks, and in this short (1:24) composition, I tried to use them all, mostly focusing on one particular lick per verse. It doesn't quite sound like a blues solo to me, it sounds more like an exercise, but I can't seem to get it to sound more interesting, and frankly I've played it so many times that it's too boring to work on anymore. Looking for feedback on any of: 1) technique that stands out as needing help 2) how to improve the composition to make it less boring 3) some alternative approaches for bars 9-12 of each verse 4) anything that strikes you as notable

@Rob Wilson if that’s exercise’s I’m playing exercises for the rest of my life! Sounds awesome Rob. It’s going to take an awful lot of reflection to add value to what you’re doing there. I loved it. The hat and the green screen are notable - very cool touch. Have a cap like that myself - might start wearing it for guitar to add instant cred!
I've built something for you...
Hey guys, I hope you're all well. So I've created a little something for you, completely free. You'll have access to this for life now. It's an interactive practice planner tool called The Woodshed, designed to help you track your practice, build the habit of practicing, and help you to stay focused & accountable. Bear in mind this is in its beta stage, so it's very early stages. It's very much a minimum viable product. I'd love to get your thoughts on it. Here's what I'd love to know: 1. Do you like it? If yes or no, why? 2. Is this something you feel like you would use? Again, why/why not? 3. Would you pay for it? If not, why not? 4. If yes, how much? 5. What features do you think are missing, if any? Are there any other valuable tools you would like that you would find useful to have as guitarists? Here's the link to the interactive practice planner tool - https://thewoodshed.static2.website/thewoodshed I'm excited to hear your thoughts.

Ben - I like it very much - not overly complicated, but detailed enough to allow for the enormous variety in what we all play and do with our time. I can think of a million things to add but it is dangerous getting to fancy with these things sometimes. I can help you build them if you need any help. For what it is worth, you could introduce a tools area in which tou could have a random note generator that rotates each x number of seconds (user chooses between a few option) with some instructions. It could also sound the note. A learn the fretboard exercise - like play all the C’s with frets 1-5 sort of thing. Next sounds a G with instructions etc. User would spend 3 mins or so familiarizing themselves with the fretboard. Another idea in tools would be incorporate an ear trainer. These things take away from it being an organizational and accountability tool only, but could be fun to develop.
Today’s Hangout
Hey guys, looking forward to catching up later for our live hangout 🤘 6pm UK time. I’m thinking of teaching a little something from the course I’m in the process of creating. How does that sound? Or let me know if you have anything you want to chat about. Catch you soon 👍

Hi Ben - sorry I couldn't attend - I was in meetings. I don't want you to read anything into my non-attendance as a lack of interest in what you are doing. I think you are brilliant and really looking forward to being a part of what you are building. Generally I think I will be available in the middle of the day / early afternoon New York time and would like to attend any of your hangs. Cheers, Angus
What do you think?
So in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to start creating my first mini course. I've decided to do a mini course, rather than one HUGE course, as I think everyone struggles with different things, so if I can create mini courses that focus on just ONE particular problem, students will have more choice of which problem they want to focus on, without getting overwhelmed with a load of unnecessary information. These courses can then be laser-focused and super specific. I've come up with a bunch of ideas and wanted to get your thoughts on which sound the most interesting or the most useful. I'd like to eventually run these mini-courses as short workshops, so maybe once I've created the course, you guys can dive into them, and then we can do a short 4-week live bootcamp on the topic. I think you can vote for more than 1, and if you have any thoughts on this or additional ideas, let me know in the comments 👍 NB: Here are some other options that didn't fit in the poll: 11. Play awesome blues guitar by yourself (without a band) 12. Build your own blues loop to practice over 13. How to learn blues licks, use them, (and never forget them!) 14. How to develop your blues vocabulary (without learning 100 different licks!) 15. Spice up your minor blues solos at your next jam 16. Must know theory for blues guitarists that you can use (and that’s actually fun to learn) 17. How to improve your blues phrasing (without more scales, notes, or theory!)

Hey everyone. Angus from New Jersey! Busy building a new business so guitar falling by the wayside. This is not good! Love Ben’s teaching so will try to use this to strap myself back in to regular playing and improving my chops. Outside of playing I enjoy teasing @Pete Dawkins !
