@Jim Flach In my situation I am not worried about the salts as I only have enough compost to sprinkle it on the beds like sprinkling salt. It is also a mixed compost some cow, chicken, goat but it is composted with all my household and garden waste.
New year, new pest deterrents
Sooo … something’s been eating my baby snap peas seedlings 🌱 and I think it’s a 🐀. I’m determined to not use traps or poison — and I think I found a simple solution. Whaddya think?? Bamboo skewers poked into the soil at odd angles (like those roof spikes for pigeons) surrounding the shoots. Fingers crossed this works. Skewers are easy. 👍🏼👍🏼🚫🐀 Have you had this or similar issues? How’d you handle it?

USDA Zones 9-11 (Annual in colder zones) Also known as Dogbane, Coleus caninus, and Scaredy Cat Plant, the Panadol Plant (Plectranthus caninus) is a hardy, multipurpose herb treasured for its medicinal, ornamental, and pest-repelling qualities. Native to East Africa and Southern Asia, this member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) is as functional as it is beautiful—thriving in gardens, containers, and food forests alike. Traditionally used in herbal medicine, Panadol contains botanical compounds believed to block pain receptors, offering natural relief for headaches, muscle aches, joint pain, and minor ailments like fevers and digestive issues. The leaves are often brewed into teas or applied as poultices for their soothing properties, making Panadol a safe, effective alternative to conventional pain relievers. Beyond its medicinal uses, Panadol is a popular natural pest repellent. Its distinct, aromatic foliage deters mosquitoes, cats, dogs, and even rabbits, making it a practical companion plant for vegetable gardens and borders. Despite its protective powers, it’s a pollinator-friendly herb, with delicate lavender-purple flowers that attract beneficial insects. Panadol is a low-growing, bushy perennial, reaching 12-18 inches tall, and forms a dense, attractive ground cover with its soft, fuzzy greenish-gray leaves. Its hardiness, drought tolerance, and ornamental appeal make it an easy-care addition to any garden.

If We depend completely on Home-Grown Edibles...
With the years of drastic climate change, was thinking how would the life be if we wouldn't depend on supply chain, and instead, grow our edibles, organically, for our food? Would love to know your thoughts?

I am already on this path. There is very little Veg, herbs or tea that I buy form the store. The only thing I get are just more of what I grow because I haven't quite reach that goal. I buy a few lb. of potatoes, onions, tomatoes and corn to top off what I already grow. I grow ALL my berries and am working on fruit and nut trees now. My foraging fills in mushrooms, greens and seeds
