Perspective
Looking for some perspective. I had an interview yesterday with an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) and I've had reservations since the application stage. I didn't complete the initial application because it required my Social Security and Driver's License numbers, which felt unusual. Despite that, I was still contacted, and the screening call with an outsourced recruiter went well โ€” though the budget was too low. The recruiter is working to increase it, though it would still be on the lower end. During the interview, I learned for the first time that it's a Baptist college โ€” something I couldn't find anywhere in my preparation. I grew up attending a Baptist church and elementary school, and I personally disagree with some of their teachings, so this gave me pause. The interview itself went well. No one was rude or unkind. However, one moment stood out โ€” as I was being walked back to my car, the interviewer mentioned that students "are allowed music on Wednesdays." It didn't register in the moment, but later I realized the implication: that music is otherwise restricted. That subtle detail is sitting with me. Overall, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable in this environment day to day, even though nothing overtly negative happened. Am I reading too much into this because of my own past experiences?

Deeann.....wow, great question! While I know the "good and real" interviews are few and far between these days ....but those are pretty extreme "red flags" especially if it trips the nervous system even above the logic that says ..."oh it's just my last experience". There is probably conscious and unconscious things giving you inner and outer pause ...but consider whether you could see yourself getting up everyday and just doing a job, particularly for things that you feel are so against your personal moral values. So in other words doing a job, managing the finance for an organization that appears, for example, to hide behind educating and yet repressing students. How would you sit with that, how would that feel with your intuition You're nervous system etc? The hardest part about job search right now I really feel.... Is being put into situations where you have to do things for the paycheck that might be completely against every one of our personal values and morals... And if we do that what is the deeper consequence that might come from that?

Full Disclosure on This Week's Calendar
Hello my Live Oakers, Wanted to share a quick note about this week's community offerings and the fact that I had to cancel most of them. Unfortunately I had an unexpected death very close to me and I only ever want to show up with my full focus and energy for our calls. I tried to keep a couple of the calls listed but realized it wasn't honoring the point of offering a safe and supported space for us so I opted to cancel things for the week. As I wasn't in a position to actually share why, as the week is coming to a close I wanted to let everybody know because that's what we are.... A COMMUNITY. It's been SUCH a heavy week for so many of us (for many weeks).... But all the news and the headlines going on around us I'm sure our affecting everybody as well. So I just wanted to let everybody know, that my hope is that this community is for all of us to come to and bring our full selves and everything that we're dealing with.... I'm sorry that I wasn't available fully this week. But will be back next week in full swing, and I encourage all of us to utilize this community post your thoughts, chats, insights etc. let's connect with each other! Take care of YOU...take care of others and hug those closest to you all! Much love to everyone! THANK YOU for being here!
