I want to train my player for low-away hitting. We currently only have a Mini and for obvious reasons hitting anything away is really hard if we are not trying to open up the arms. Do we need a fungo to train low-away hitting? And what drills will be good for working those pitches? Show we train to open up some for those low-outsiders?
The goal is still staying stacked, keeping the rear leg in control, and letting the barrel work from behind you. The mini can help, but yeah, for true low-away work a fungo is usually better because it gives you more room to feel the barrel stay long and work through that quadrant without feeling like you have to cheat it with your arms with that shorter barrel. I’d use the mini more for cleaning up hand pivot and keeping the barrel from getting pushed out front and tee and side flips. Good drills would be flamingos, pendulums and hover cloved. Can do all these with snap stops too where the focus is staying on the rear side, turning the barrel rearward and run into that pitch instead of reaching for it. But for front flips, I would def recommend fungo so you're NOT training to open up.
Matteo proves high pitches can be--more than hit-- railed out oppo for a slug with HLP. Pride high for my guy. He gave props to the catcher for the play.
I’m looking for 3 things to work on this season, I was happy he was out ready to work. Mostly just feeling for the back hip pocket yesterday. I see the “armbar” and not keeping the hands in tight, trying to keep it fun. Maybe some banded SnF?
Bands are always good.. Id move that tee to his back hip though so everything stays connected and not like he has to get it off tee. Think 'I want to run into the ball' not 'i have to go get this ball'
