William Carey is a shoemaker maker who was dedicated to missions in India. After being told he was foolish for trying to convert an uncivilized people, he persisted for 7 years seeing no conversions, to keep ministering and translating the Bible for what others called “heathens”. TODAY’S WISDOM Are your choices building your character or compromising it? TRANSFORMATIONAL OVERVIEW Proverbs 28 contrasts the outcomes of integrity and wickedness. It addresses justice, honesty, confession, generosity, leadership, and the danger of trusting in wealth rather than living righteously. Verse 1 describes the righteous as bold as a lion. This does not mean that people who live rightly never feel fear. Rather, integrity provides a kind of confidence that does not depend on hiding wrongdoing or manipulating circumstances. The chapter repeatedly warns against shortcuts that promise immediate gain but undermine what is right. Verse 6 teaches that it is better to be poor and walk in integrity than to be crooked in one’s ways, even if that person is rich. Wisdom measures success by more than possessions, position, or public appearance. Imagine your life as a house under construction. Every decision contributes to its structure. Honesty strengthens it; deception weakens it. Accountability helps repair what is damaged, while denial allows problems to spread. You may be able to cover a crack with fresh paint, but cosmetic improvement does not correct a structural problem. Proverbs 28:13 makes this especially clear: concealing transgressions is contrasted with confessing and forsaking them. Growth requires more than admitting that something went wrong. It also requires a willingness to turn away from the behavior. The chapter further reminds leaders that justice matters and that generosity is preferable to greed. Our decisions do not affect only us; they influence the people who depend on us and the communities we help shape.
