8/6/24 | Mixtape: Volume 1 (In Conjunction with Hari Gig Kebangsaan/National Gig Day)
Hello fellas, I just finished shooting some photos last night at a local gig and it left me ecstatic that I could ever take these kinds of photos. Of course, I expected that it would be a long night considering it housed 12 acts! The whole thing started from 3pm throughout 12am, it was fun! I loved some of these shots I managed to capture, and I hope you like them too. Though I do apologize, most of them are a bit shaky. 😅 Hakuro/Ana 📷😎🤙🎐

@Selin Dikmen Thanks!
photos from a laid back little warehouse gig:
had a nice change of pace last weekend shooting a super laid-back, hidden-away gig in a warehouse. this was a cool & unique space to shoot in - lots of camera gear to work around, and a pretty dispersed audience. in terms of the edit, i leaned into the cozy warmth of the space, and went with a 70s-inspired, rich, orangey-brown look. pretty different to the usual, so it was nice to venture in this direction a bit. also had a chance to test out my new Insta360 X4 - i think i'll be able to make a lot of fun content with this thing. i'm excited to get that out to you. anybody here go on any shoots last weekend? show us your photos!

It's giving golden lavish moments, I enjoy these!
My favourite lens for taking concert photos:
I have tried a BUNCH of different lenses for concert photography. Zooms, The Nifty Fifty, Ultra-Wides… But now I don’t use ANY of those. These days, I only carry ONE LENS for my shoots - and I’ve taken it from dive bars to arenas. So, what lens am I talking about? It’s the 35mm. And today, I want to share with you 5 reasons why I love it: 1️⃣ LOW-LIGHT LEGEND The 35mm is a “prime” lens (it has a fixed focal length). Primes typically have a wider aperture than zoom lenses. This means that it can take in more light - which is crucial, especially for smaller concerts. Combined with a full-frame camera body (which also takes in more light), this makes for a very reliable setup. I can count on it performing well in any lighting situation. 2️⃣ ALL-STAR A lot of people would recommend a 50mm for a one-lens setup. I find them to be a bit too tight - especially in smaller venues. With a 35mm, I can get more inside my frame from the photo pit - but still get details of the performer’s face. I can also get wide shots of the whole room/venue from the back. This makes for GREAT variety across my photos. And it does all of this while still having that natural, “undistorted” look that the 50mm is praised for. 3️⃣ MAKES YOU MOVE Not having a zoom ring forces you to move. If you want a tighter shot, you actually have to move yourself closer. If you want a wider shot, you need to move yourself away. This is great for learning how to move with your camera to frame your shots. 4️⃣ LIGHT-WEIGHT Concert photography is very fast-paced. A 35mm lens is lightweight and compact. Need I say more? 5️⃣ AFFORDABLE Trying to get a good zoom lens (with a wide aperture) can be costly. The 35mm, however, is a fantastic option for a lower budget. Saving money never hurts (especially when starting out). --- So if you're deciding on your first lens, this would be my suggestion for you. Hope this helps :) What lens is your #1?

I use a 3rd party 35mm F1.4 prime lens and it feels great, ever since then I don't worry about lowlight situations anymore while taking concert photos or even night outings!🙏🏻📸

@Jade Ryuki haha, sometimes. But it trains me to not depend on autonomy so it's like training my muscle memory. It's really handy!

Giving Everyone The Spotlight: Making Sure No One Gets Left Out
Hello all! Something has been on my mind recently, and it has to do with how I take pictures and who I take pictures of. This includes, but is not limited to- -Every band member during a performance🎸🎸🥁🎙️ I try my best to give everyone the photos they deserve, especially during shows. Big or small doesn't matter the act or venue, to me I feel like there will always be a case of band members in every band not being appreciated. This means taking photos of each member could help build their confidence when performing. Not only that, but it also helps in a sense that those photos are something they will look back on for years to come. No matter how "bad" or good you think the photos look, always remember that a lot of bands appreciate the gesture. Consider it your gift to them! 😁 -Concert/show goers👾 I know it seems meaningless at first, but just keep in mind that while there would be a lot of movement especially for concerts, no matter big or small will be harder to capture. My favourite trick is to capture stagnant moments such as when the crowd is really into the music but at the same time move less. These are the perfect times to get their photos. If you're unsure of how to capture the photos or how to position yourself, I suggest practicing at least a week or a month before getting your desired shot. Practice, but also apply the technical and practical theories- envision/plan ahead on how you want your photos to look like. Furthermore, expect the worst. Not everything will go your way. Try to learn and adapt to your surroundings, especially for gigs and shows that tend to have energetic crowds. Those are the hardest and if the situation is too overwhelming, try taking photos from a distance. Do not overexert yourself or push yourself to do things you feel that you are unfamiliar with. Take it slow, bear in mind that it isn't a race. 🤷🏻 -Merchandise handlers, other fellow photographers/media and organisers.📸🙏🏻 Ah yes, the team behind it all... making sure that everything goes smoothly.
