@Jared Webb You need to replenish later because there’s no way to know how much to replenish before you lose it. Replenishment will depend on how long you run and your sweat rate. Even on hot days, the amount of sodium we get from food is enough to make up for some of the loss.

@Jared Webb No, it doesn't work that way. Especially since you're going to sweat no matter what during exercise. When we exercise, our bodies heat up, and to try to regulate our body temperature, our bodies expel water in the form of sweat. Sodium can't stop this process.
Running in the Heat 🌡️
Yesterday I went for a run, and when I finished, my body felt like a cell phone that’s overheated, you know? It was awful. It looks like summer has finally arrived here in Barcelona, and in other parts of Europe, too. Hot conditions can have some impacts on our bodies while we train, like increased heart rate, increased perception of exertion, risk of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and others. Here are the things I do to prevent or reduce these negative impacts: - I run during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening - I opt for routes with plenty of shade and sometimes I choose the treadmill - I always wear hat, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen to exposed skin - I drink up to ~ 2,7- 3.0 L/day (approx. 12 cups) of water per day - I increase my intake of water-rich foods such as: cantaloupe, watermelon, yogurt, cucumber, strawberries, etc. - I always bring my soft flask to my workouts and leave it in the freezer for an hour before heading out - If I run 10K or more, I always drink an electrolyte drink afterward And you, what do you do to make your runs easier during these extremely hot days?

@Edward Holmgren I lived in the city Center. Very close to Gran Via and Puerta del Sol. I think it was the hottest place in Madrid 😵‍💫

@Edward Holmgren yes, that's very common to do here heheh. When is extremely hot in Barcelona and I need to go out, I always go inside stores with AC to cool off.
Now this was an interesting video!

That’s really interesting!! I think that after the London Marathon, we’ll see a lot of changes when it comes to carb intake. That gets me really excited, but at the same time, I know that to reach the point of consuming extremely high amounts (>100g/h) of carbs, you have to be a professional athlete, make a living from it, and train all day long. Getting to that point is no easy feat. But there are already amateur athletes consuming 90 g/h, which is quite a lot as well. Thanks for sharing @Jared Webb 🙌
Marathon FUEL?
I ran with the Go Gels from BPN. They taste good and worked with my stomach! Each get has about 25g of carbs. I had 1 every 4 mile and a caffeinated one on miles 12 and 20 and an electrolyte pill every 45min and that seemed to help keep cramps away and energy up!

I loved the post! I took a look at the gels and really liked the ingredients. I wasn't familiar with this brand, and now it's going straight into the gel guide I'm putting together. By my calculations, that averages out to 42g of carbs per hour. Not bad, but you could increase that amount or take the first gel after 60–70 minutes of running. Good fueling strategy for a first marathon. You nailed it @Jared Webb
🌰This or That🍪
The other day, I met up with some friends, and in the middle of our casual conversation, we started talking about food and which of the two foods each of us preferred. The conversation went on for a while because, after all, everyone has their own preferences and their own reasons for why they prefer one over the other. And then I thought, why not ask this here in the community? To start things off, I’ll ask: Do you prefer nuts or cookies for a snack? why?
