Write "Lists" and you will get the full Cost Lists of a coffee shop - Why 60% of coffee shops fail in year one
I talk to a lot of people who want to open a cafe, and almost none of them have this done. No full business case. No complete list of variable costs. No complete list of fixed costs — the stuff you pay even on the days you're closed. No real number for total investment needed before you open the door. And here's the part that actually worries me: more than 60% of coffee shops fail in year one, and more than 80% don't make it past year five. I used to think that was because people didn't try hard enough. I don't think that anymore. I think it's because people assume it's simple. Pick a nice space, get a good machine, make good coffee, done. It's the opposite of simple. The owners who make it are the ones who sat down early and got honest about the numbers — before the lease, before the buildout, before any of it. You don't need my template for this. Use whatever system works for you. But please, please do not sign anything until you've built these three lists yourself: 1. Every variable cost — what changes with how busy you are 2. Every fixed cost — what you pay whether you're open or not 3. Your full investment number — everything it takes to actually get the doors open If you want the breakdown I use with people going through this, comment "Lists" and I'll send it your way. ☕ P.S. This is for anyone who's serious about opening, even if it's a year or two out. If you're just daydreaming about it, that's fine too — just know these three lists are where the daydream turns into a real plan.

Hi! My name is Alina, and I’m from Boston, Massachusetts. I’m a Dominican baker and the heart behind Alina Sweets. 🇩🇴🧁 For over 5 years, I’ve been baking from home, creating traditional Dominican cakes and sweets for birthdays, weddings, quinceañeras, baptisms, and all kinds of special celebrations. But my dream goes beyond baking from home. ✨ My goal is to one day open a local coffee shop where I can share my desserts, my culture, and my love for baking with my community — all while creating a space filled with warmth, beauty, and God’s love. 🤍 I envision a soft, cozy brunch-style café with delicious Dominican-inspired treats, pastries, coffee, and a menu where everyone can come, slow down, enjoy something sweet, and feel at home. ☕️🥐🍰 This dream has been growing in my heart for years, and I’m trusting God to guide every step of the journey. Welcome to the beginning of the Alina Sweets dream. A little piece of my heart, baked with love. 🤍✨

@Juan Rosenzweig Right now, the location is still wide open. I’m praying for God to lead me to the right spot in Boston a good location where the business can grow and where I can serve the community with love. I’m open to the right opportunity He puts in front of me. 🤍🙏🏽

More than 3 months in the community and don't own a coffee shop? lets talk! 🎉 - I honestly didn't expect this.
I honestly didn't expect this. I still remember sitting in my apartment with a half-finished spreadsheet, wondering if anyone outside my own head would care about what I'd learned running a coffee shop. More than 3,000 people in this community and +300 in the paid says they do. Every one of you behind that number is either dreaming about a café, already fighting to keep one alive, or running one and trying to squeeze a real margin out of it. And our first reviews show it! What I keep noticing is that the people who actually open aren't the ones with the most polished plan — they're the ones who kept showing up here, asked the uncomfortable question, and did the next unglamorous thing instead of waiting to feel ready. That's the real story behind this number, not me. If you've been sitting on the fence, this is your sign. Drop your story below and let's make it real 👇 I will help you take the next step and we will take it from there...
