๐ŸŽ‰ Changing names: Welcome to The Game of Skool!
This community has gone through a journey โ€” gamification & engagement, retention, and now thriving communities. Each pivot taught us something important. Now itโ€™s time to bring it all together under one clear identity, which we were discussing a few weeks ago: ๐Ÿ‘‰ The Game of Skool Wait, but why? At its core, everything weโ€™ve explored has been about playing the game smarter: - Using gamification to drive engagement. - Growing communities that thrive. - Making Skool itself work for you โ€” increasing activity, discoverability, results. This is not just a name change. Itโ€™s a reset of our standards and our focus: - Clearer conversations. - More practical strategies. - A community where showing up and contributing truly matters. Welcome to The Game of Skool. Letโ€™s play it well.

I like this idea. Using Gaming to Learn, Gaming to Skool is 100% on my radar. I don't use games daily, but I definitely utilize them when they can fit into my curriculum. Luckily, there are some great games for Financial Literacy. If anyone has any additional suggestions, I'm always looking to add to my repertoire.

@Mathew Georghiou I have used Next Gen Personal Finance games and lessons. https://www.ngpf.org/arcade/ Mostly Stax, Bummer!, and Credit Clash. I've also used an old Desmos Activity to talk about percent increases and decreases in ye olde Oregon Trail simulations.
What are your plans for the weekend?
I know some people work regardless of the day of the week, some just chill out on weekends, and others have occasional (or regular) great plans. Where do you stand on this?

With two young daughters, there's never a chill moment. I am constantly on the go. But I wouldn't change it for the world. At least I have figured out how to keep all of my grading and classwork at school!
Excitement Post
I am excited to be back in the classroom. I am constantly looking for new ways to engage my high school level learners, and using gaming or gamification is a great tool to expand upon. I have used things in the past like Classcraft, and my Game Design course, but now I'm actively looking for simulation games to help me reach my Applications of Algebra and Geometry students. We played the Oregon Trail on Desmos a few weeks ago, and used the old-school game as a way to practice percent changes before a quiz. I'd like to say that math practice really helped because students scored 75% or above across the board on that quiz. If you'd like to see the Oregon Trail with a math twist you can check it out here: https://teacher.desmos.com/activitybuilder/custom/5d197ac71e71bd0affbffb96?collections=6720fa17e311561345b2df1f
What games are you playing?
I am currently starting a new round of Baldurs Gate 3. It is my favourite game so far and also great for multiplayer. The best part is that you can talk to all the animals. (They got individual voice actors) They really earned their place for the best game of the year in 2023. What are you currently playing? If you are not playing anything, let me know about your favourite game.

I'm in the Forgotten Realms world right now too, with Idle Champions: Of the Forgotten Realms. It's been my go-to mission grinding, character building game.

Hi All, my name is Alex Gibson, I am a high school math teacher who uses gamification for problem sets whenever I can using Desmos. Currently, I am teaching at a Career and Technical Center, and have a course on Applications of Algebra and Geometry. The course looks at budgeting, career salaries, taxes, and loans, like a personal finance course. I also have taught computer science courses and a game design course. I am a gamer at heart, having played many video games since the original Nintendo and Sega Genesis. I am now helping my school run its esports club. Currently, three of our teams are in the regional playoffs.
