Excitement Post
I am excited to be back in the classroom. I am constantly looking for new ways to engage my high school level learners, and using gaming or gamification is a great tool to expand upon. I have used things in the past like Classcraft, and my Game Design course, but now I'm actively looking for simulation games to help me reach my Applications of Algebra and Geometry students. We played the Oregon Trail on Desmos a few weeks ago, and used the old-school game as a way to practice percent changes before a quiz. I'd like to say that math practice really helped because students scored 75% or above across the board on that quiz.
If you'd like to see the Oregon Trail with a math twist you can check it out here: https://teacher.desmos.com/activitybuilder/custom/5d197ac71e71bd0affbffb96?collections=6720fa17e311561345b2df1f
