I have a couple questions regarding diving, there are some things that I have seen recently that don’t necessarily make sense or align with what I was taught growing up and I want to know everyone’s opinion: 1) I was taught that when I dive, my butt/hip should be the first thing to hit the ground followed by my side, arms and then the ball last. Recently I have been seeing players land ball first. this doesn’t make sense to me for several reasons, first landing ball first means you’re contorting your body down and away from where the shot is going and second, if you don’t catch the ball you’re landing on your hand which puts all your body weight into your wrists and arms. 2) I was taught to dive and catch the ball out ahead of you with your forearm in front of your face. Lately I have been seeing players land with the ball in front of their face. Again to me this doesn’t make sense since if a player is trying to kick the ball they would hit you directly in the face and second your elbow ends up in your rib cage. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?
