TOO BROKE FOR AAU
I'm playing very well at school thanks to my work ethic, I score so much at school pickup games I can't be reminded. But I won't celebrate too early as the real trial is the season. My parents don't stop me from grinding basketball, but are very reluctant to pay for outside school clubs or teams anymore. So my solution would be to go play in local high-level 5v5 pickup runs weekly, the ones with adults, college players and even local pros. I won't let the money stop me. My competition may be blessed with school team + outside school club + personal trainer + camp exposure, but I'll have more hunger, consistency and belief compared to them. It's not like I have no formal training for the 2 years of high school to come; I sometimes still pay for a trainer out of my own pocket for specific areas to work on, such as shooting. And I sometimes still go to summer camps. No fluff, please help me compare getting outside school club (I'm not in the states, so can't call it AAU) and straight up college and pro level 5v5 runs. What am I gaining and what am I missing out on? It’s the same game, but the environment and structure are different.

@John Medow Obviously, and I’ll forge myself through playing with high level adults as a 16 year old. On the good side, I avoid a lot of the politics and favouritism of AAU/club ball.

@Mark Hallman But being brutally honest, what am I missing out on in terms of my basketball development if I don't get structured team training outside of the resources provided by the school team?
Tryouts tomorrow any tips?
I don’t necessarily feel nervous but there is some pressure. I wanna play in the NBA, so failing to make even the novice team would basically mean no more hoop dreams. I spent 2-3 hours a day the past 4 months grinding, but then i got jumpers knee so i dont even know how its gonna go. Based on ur guys experience what was the most challenging part of tryouts?

How old and how tall are you? What are your strengths and weaknesses? If you want real improvement advice you can’t be vague here, we need to analyse the immediate actions you can take now. Work hard, hustle, believe in yourself, you probably know all of that. Good luck though

@Maxwell Tiongco but what position are you though? 5’10 is pretty tall for a 14 year old?
Which players are you studying right now?
I want to add more players to the database I am creating.
