Create a special moment with music
For performers, doing a gig and pulling off a great show is all in a days work. For senior communities, the music show is an event that can make their entire day or week! Remembering that can help us be mindful to put our best foot forward, be present, and make the melodies full of love and intention. What is your favorite musical moment?

Every time I play at memory care, and a resident seems to “wake up” after hearing a song they remember from their youth, I am reminded how important our work is, even if sometimes the signs can be subtle. Sometimes they even get out of their wheelchairs and “dance”, (with the help of the activity director, of course). It’s a very meaningful way for us to spend our time.
This is where it all started...
Here is a clip about 13 years ago of me playing guitar for my 95 year old grandmother at Sycamore Nursing & Rehabilitation in Loyalsock, Pennsylvania. A dozen or so visits were just like this. I'd sit next to her with my grandfather's guitar and play the songs she loved. We would have this musical moment together that was very special. The director came during one of these visits and asked me to play for the whole community and they'd be happy to pay me. Talk about a day that changed my life!

So nice! I also started down the path of playing for seniors after playing for my mother and my mother-in-law during their final months/days. Very powerful and emotional!
Creating a senior entertainment business
As I move forward with creating s business entertaining seniors, I am looking to create a website, a business card, and a “demo reel”. Does anyone have examples, specific to performing for seniors, that they can share? I suppose activity directors would be the primary audience.

I plan on retiring in the next few years. At this point, I plan on self-managing my assets.
