Soul Story Sunday - Pamela Lee, are you happy?
It was 1980, and I had traveled from Toronto to Vancouver for my sister’s wedding. My husband at the time had wanted to come with me. I’d already left him once, but in my heart I knew we wouldn’t be together when August rolled around. I could hear my mom rustling around in the kitchen, while my grandmother and I sat alone at the dining room table. She reached across the table, touched my hand, and whispered, “Pamela Lee, are you happy?” I smiled and said, “Yes, Grandma, I am.” "That’s all that matters.” Her response has carried me through many moments, reminding me that my choices are mine to make, and she smiled proudly, knowing I made the best decisions for my happiness. My happiness is all she cared about. Not the details. Not why I left him. Only was I happy? Years later, as I was in that space between falling asleep, she came to me. Again, she used my full proper name, “Pamela Lee.” I shot up in bed. “Grandma, what is it?” “I came to say goodbye. To let you know I am happy, and all I ask of you is to be happy.” The next morning my Dad called and said, “I have news.” “Yes, I know. Grandma died last night.” Curious, my Dad asked, “Who called you?” “No one. Grandma came to say goodbye.” "Impossible," he said. He didn’t believe me for years, but that’s okay. My Grandmother knew I would receive her presence. This spring I’ll be gathering stories like this one into Wisdom from Our Grandmothers, a collection of two-page stories from our community, each one lovingly edited and in print in time for Mother’s Day. My grandmother asked me one question in 1980, and I’ve been answering it ever since. What question did yours leave with you? 💜

What if your life has been preparing you all along?
Last evening, I had a conversation with my youngest son, who just turned 33. We were talking about how his high school co-op course in screen printing became the first glimpse of the career he would eventually build in the print industry. It reminded me of my own beginning in publishing. I failed the typing test at Holt, Rinehart & Winston, but I asked for a second interview anyway. That seemingly insignificant moment became the doorway into a career that has now spanned 46 years. I've often wondered if there are any mistakes in life, and perhaps none in our vocations either. Looking back, it's remarkable how ordinary moments quietly shape who we become. And over the past six months, something even deeper has been emerging. After spending the last seven years alongside writers and their books, I've come to realize that writing isn't simply about finding the right words. What if writing isn't teaching us who we are, but helping us remember? The moments that stay with me aren't when someone crafts the perfect sentence. It’s when words emerge that feel less like something they've invented and more like something they've finally allowed themselves to hear. Perhaps that's why writing can feel so transformational. So cathartic. Not because it changes us into someone new, but because it returns us to who we've been all along. And maybe, just maybe... that's one of the reasons we're here. I'm curious... Have you ever written, spoken, or created something that made you think, "I didn't know that was in me?"

Vacation Time: I'll leave this with you
I'm heading out in the morning for a family vacation. I'll be back next Monday for Sacred Conversations with our VIPers, and Tuesday evening for our co-writing session. Until then, I'd love to leave you with this. As you listen, gently close your eyes and open yourself to receive. If it resonates with you, imagine your crown chakra opening to Divine wisdom and simply notice... What wants to flow through you? Have a beautiful week, and I'll see you soon.
