Shutting down the group for now
Hi Everyone! I am spread way too thin and simply don't have enough time to devote to the group. I would love to keep in touch with all of you!! This group will go dark on February 21st... so if you want to stay in touch, DM me your phone number or your email and we can talk there. There are so many awesome groups in Skool for gardening, etc.... hope to see you there!

Any groups you recommend?
Hi and thanks for adding me
I'm not an expert gardener or no expert in anything - I am just a person with ADHD and obsessive persistence who starts hundreds of projects and one happens to be a garden. I’ve been tending to my garden for the past 14 years on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I live in a rural area but in the development with a modest backyard and a clay soil which makes it a challenge! I’ve discovered that sometimes less is more when it comes to gardening, as my best crops seemed to thrive when I put in the least effort. Last year’s harvest reminded me of that - when practically nothing grew! Thankfully, my cucumbers and tomatoes—my absolute favorites—never let me down! :) Dreaming big, I envision someday living in a serene green meadow nestled in between hills and woods, surrounded by acres of land and blissful solitude. I garden for the practical reasons - to be able to sustain ourselves in case the worst happens and also because I grew up in Lithuania where gardening and homestead was a big part of everyone's life. I am hoping that one day I will return to Lithuania and live a quiet peaceful life on my homestead there. Nice to meet you! 🌱

Hello from Ohio!
Hi Im a backyard homesteader on 2 acres with a bunch of chickens and a garden. Chickens are going great but my gardening yield has always been lackluster. I have pretty clayish soil and Im trying to incorporate compost and layering to help create good topsoil. Any tips would be appreciated if anyone has successfully dealt with hard clay like soil before. My dream life is on 20+ acres with tons of pastureland for grass fed cattle, chickens, all manor or fruit trees and berry bushes, and anywhere but in Ohio. :)

I reside on Maryland's Eastern Shore and have clay soil in my yard. I've amended it extensively over the years, but last year my garden produced very poorly, despite aeration and additions. It seems the more effort I invest, the less I receive. This year, I plan to simply plant the seeds and let nature take its course.
First time gardener...what's a good crop to start with?
We're creating a small backyard garden about 1,400 sq ft. Approx 540 sq ft will be dedicated to the greenhouse and chicken coop. The frontyard will have a shaded herb garden. What are some essential crops you think I should start with? I'm looking at crops that are beginner friendly, good yield, versatile foods for cooking for a family with kids.

Cucumbers are easy to grow, and they're delicious eaten fresh daily. I've noticed that the less I prepare my soil and garden, the better it grows for me ;). My first gardens were simply seeds planted in whatever soil I had in my backyard, and I had much better crops than when I started over-planning and overthinking. Regardless, I always have tomatoes and cucumbers growing, if nothing else is.
