Some people seem to always focus on the negative. Everything is always bad. Complaining. Misery loves company. Others say to just focus on the positive. "It's all good" as they say. But focusing on positive or negative is kind of the same thing. There is no one without the other, so trying to disregard either can be a set up for failure. Are there bad things happening in the world? If you focus only on the positive, do those bad things go away? Or do they get worse? There are things you can control and things you can't. Focusing on the things you can't control does very little good. But do you know which is which? Since positive and negative are two sides of one whole, there will always be positive IN negative and that is recognizable, which I think is what people really mean with these types of "stay positive" sentiments. The same way there is always negative with positive and some people focus only on that aspect. But it can lead to people ignoring one thing or the other instead of accepting the whole. The one defines the other, and without the one, is without the other. Accepting things for what they are is the key. But accepting a set back, is not the same as accepting defeat. People are often way more capable of things than they think. So where are the limitations really? We tend to draw lines in the sand all over the place and put things into little boxes, but those boxes are more illusions than reality. Take in the whole of the experience. Some of the most important lessons come from losses. We typically see them as bad at the time, but with more context, we start to see these things differently. It doesn't necessarily mean that the "bad" was never really there, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the "good" is there either. Both and neither and everything in between. Life is less about the circumstances and more about how you navigate the land and sea. We can fight and struggle or we can ride the wave and go with the flow. We have our perception. We have our perspective. "Live your truth" has become a catchy catch phrase... But is there THE Capital T "Truth"...?
