Has it happened yet? An adorable 7 year old goes “What’s your job?” looking up at you like a deer in headlights…. And you scratch your head and wonder how to explain it to this kid! If what you do is something more complex than teacher, doctor, bus driver, police officer, it’s probable that the kid won’t know how to conceptualize it. As entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves in complex conversations about our businesses, diving deep into industry jargon and technical details. I know I get caught up in it… So much so that my message can be completely missed. Is it just me? lol I’ve learned there's so much value in being able to simplify and articulate what we do in a way that even a child can understand. The ability to explain your business to a child is not just about simplifying your message; it's about honing your communication skills, fostering creativity, and building meaningful connections… We don’t need to care about how smart we sound. We need to care about being understood and heard. And of course, that adorable little kid that asked what you do may wanna run and tell the adults in their life, if they find it cool enough of course! 😄 look at that! You’re networking with a kid! I celebrate Mothers Day because I’m a Mom. I celebrate Mothers Day because my Mom gave me a life. Here’s the history of my story: My mom was asked to have an abortion but she said NO. THANK god because she said no and I was born!!!!! Even though I had a hard childhood I’m so blessed to be alive. If my mom agreed to have an abortion I would be dead. This tells me that I have a purpose to impact people, that their lives matter. When I found out I was pregnant I said YES! I was date raped and when most people would not say yes I saw what God was gifting me. A child of my own. Fast forward and I have said goodbye to my Mother’s body but talk to her spirit all the time. I feel blessed to have an amazing son who is growing to be an amazing human being. The hard part: my son hurts. He doesn’t see himself like anybody else does. He says he’s a horrible person. This hurts like I cannot explain. All I can do is love him. And hope he sees how everyone else sees him and learns that his perception is warped. Everyone that knows my son says he is so amazing! This is the journey. Up and down. But the blessing is so amazing!! I celebrate Mother’s Day as the gift that it is. I am so blessed to have 17 yrs of trying to be the best. Reason of myself for another human being. All I can do is love him. It’s in God’s hands.
