What Is the CSS and How Can You Complete It
The CSS Profile is basically the online form that U.S. universities use to decide how much scholarship or financial aid to give you. It’s found on the College Board website, the same organization that runs the SAT. When you create your account and start the form, it will ask questions about your family’s income, expenses, savings, and assets. The purpose is to show the university that you can’t afford tuition, so they can cover the rest with a full-ride scholarship. Here’s how to go about it: 1️⃣ Go to www.cssprofile.org and sign in with a free College Board account. 2️⃣ Add all the universities you’re applying to that require the CSS Profile. 3️⃣ Fill in details about your parents’ income (even if it’s low or unstable — just be honest). 4️⃣ If your parents don’t have formal documents like tax returns, it’s okay. You can estimate and later upload a short explanation letter saying your family doesn’t file taxes or works informally. 5️⃣ Review everything carefully, submit, and pay the small fee, or request a fee waiver inside the system if your family can’t afford it. You can get a fee waiver for the CSS by emailing the university’s financial aid office and politely asking if they can grant a CSS Profile fee waiver or provide an alternative financial aid form for international students (most universities will give you the fee waiver). Once you submit, your chosen universities will automatically receive your information. That’s how they decide your scholarship amount, you don’t need to apply for a separate full-ride.
