If you've been following along, I swear I am not getting shiny object syndrome. I'm not going to start building robots tomorrow. But it's on the docket. Here's why... People are trying to build humanoid cleaning robots, but that's not the right move. The ICM method demonstrates, by the nature of it, a future where robots have specialty jobs, rather than an all-in-one perfectly dexterous machine. And maybe we do get there eventually, but I'm watching what these companies are trying to do with the cleaning robots and I think they're doing it all wrong. The future is not the terminator-maid. Women buy house cleaning, for the most part. They don't want a big heavy ass machine toppling on their kids or pets. They don't want a human inside the robot, which, by the way is how the company in SF is managing to do this. It's creepy and weird, and we're a long way from a robot being able to hand wash the dishes. No. The future for house cleaning is homes that are self cleaning, and/or wally---not the terminator--but a team of wally's that assist. Even in house cleaning, I'm betting that a human stays in the loop. Somebody has to service the robots, at the very least. As soon as I can afford it, and once we're cruising with our ICM system installed, I'm going to start developing robots. At least, I will hire someone that works towards this. If I can make a fleet of cleaning robots, we're gonna be the coolest cleaning company that has ever existed. And just maybe we can change the world, too.

I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve data from the internet faster and efficiently. The search algorithms we've got are just not that helpful anymore. We might have to look back at history on how those search engines and algorithms were made (like for the augmentation of the humans) but now there are just tools of mass exploitation. Can anybody make a new algorithm for this using good old principles. The internet is a big place with a lot of slop but that 1% gold is what makes me come back to it again and again. I used to go to simple sites like this one mathisfun.com to learn. It's an old looking site but the feeling it gave me still makes me wonder the ones we have today are just soulless. We are in the transition period of the digital space. I think we can build algorithms and search engines that augment people instead of exploting them. Actually I wanted to ask if there is a way to do that.

Does an AI really understand your job, or does it just follow a rulebook? In 1980, John Searle imagined a man in a room who knows no Chinese. He gets Chinese symbols, follows a rulebook, and sends back perfect answers. People outside think he understands. In reality He doesn’t. I used to think that’s all AI is. Then I heard Geoffrey Hinton argue that modern AI isn’t just guessing the next word. In building that guess, it forms a model of the world, and he says that is what understanding is. He argued that the current AI understands like a human and is closer to us then machine code. So I’ve been wondering about ICM (organising a job into folders, stages, and rules, judgement calls, opinions written down on how the work should be done). Are we just handing it a better rulebook? Or are we giving the AI a real picture of the job, with a human checking each stage? I lean toward the second. What's your opinion?

Hi everyone, not been around much for the last month my physical and mental health as not been great. I am struggling with my diabetes at the moment and it is effecting my sleep, which in turn is doing a number on my mental health. I am also noticing more pain in my legs, I have a couple of Doctors appointments coming up over the next two weeks and hoping we find a way forward to get the help I need to be on a better track with my health. I just wanted to pop on and say I have not given up and just disappeared. I have been using all my physical and social energy for my day job and caring with the Mrs when she needs me. I believe in the method Jake is sharing with us and I am going to keep coming back until I know it like the back of my hand and can put it into use for myself and then teach it to my colleagues. Anyways here to be feeling and doing better in the next few weeks, and being around to ask questions and learn. Michael
