The Unforgiveable Book Marketing Sin
I've been around the block when it comes to book marketing. Been doing this for years. Sold thousands of copies. But here's the thing I've noticed between the indie authors that sell a bunch of books and those that flounder for attention. The indies that are selling lots of books have a terrific cover. Your book cover is the single most important piece of book marketing you can do. If it doesn't blend in among traditionally published books, you're sunk. Whatever you do, do NOT cheap out on your book cover. Do whatever you can to make sure that book cover would stop someone in their tracks at a Barnes & Noble.

@Eric Anderson I like to give it the Barnes & Noble test. Put yourself in the shoes of a customer. Pretend you've never heard of your book and don't know what it was about. If you simply saw the spine or cover if you were walking through a Barnes & Noble. Would you stop to pick it up? If not, back to the drawing board. I also recommend hiring widely respected artists that have worked on a lot of books before. Expect to pay over $1000 for most artists worth their salt.
