Bathroom Design - Work in Progress!
A lot of people think a bathroom looks high-end because of the materials. But in reality, it’s usually the details that make the biggest difference. There are a few design decisions I almost always lean into when I want a bathroom to feel really elevated and considered, and I thought I’d share a few of them here. Underfloor heating and heated towel railsThese are such simple additions, but they completely change how a bathroom feels to use. Stepping onto warm tiles in winter and having a warm towel ready makes the whole space feel a little bit luxurious in everyday life. Real marble used in small momentsYou don’t have to cover the whole bathroom in marble to get that beautiful natural feel. I love using real marble for vanity benchtops or lining niches. Even small touches of natural stone add depth and texture that’s very hard to replicate. Feature wall lightsWall lights instantly soften a bathroom and make it feel more layered than just relying on downlights. I especially love putting them on sensors so they gently switch on at night without blasting the whole room with bright light. They look beautiful but they’re also incredibly practical. Thoughtful joinery detailsCustom joinery is always lovely, but sometimes it’s not about custom — it’s about installation. Something as simple as recessing a shaving cabinet into the wall instead of mounting it on the surface can make a huge difference to how “designed” a bathroom feels. When these kinds of details are considered early, you can often pair them with more cost-effective tiles or tapware and still achieve a really beautiful result. I’ve attached a few images from a project we’re currently working on that incorporates some of these ideas. It’s still in the design stage at the moment, and we’re about to put the drawings into render which is always the exciting part. Once the renders are ready I’ll share them in here as well so you can see how everything comes together.

Congrats on the launch, Kate! My biggest difficulty has been trying to create a functional layout that still looks stylish. There are just so many options for everything, it gets overwhelming and I’m always worried I’ll choose the wrong thing. This is going to be super helpful for me!
