How to get sh*t done as an ADHD entrepreneur
Most ADHD entrepreneurs donโ€™t fail because theyโ€™re lazy or donโ€™t know what to doโ€ฆ They fail because starting tasks and staying focused with ADHD is hard โ€” a core part of whatโ€™s known as executive dysfunction. If you struggle with ADHD productivity, procrastination, or task initiation, this post is for you. ----- After 13 years as an entrepreneur with ADHD, I find that my brain would rather do literally anything else: ๐Ÿงน Clean my room ๐Ÿ”ง Tweak my logo for 3 hours ๐Ÿคฉ Go all-in on a new side project But over the last decade, I've found that executing on the RIGHT things, in the right order, is what sets apart my $50k months from 6-month droughts with no income. So how do we fix this? ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ‘‰ By overcoming task initiation paralysis. The voice in your head that says, "I know I SHOULD do this, but I'd rather binge YouTube." This is what Brendan Mahan refers to as the "Wall of Awful" in his book ADHD Essentials. We're stopped from initiating tasks by an emotional barrier. The accumulation of shame, guilt, and fear of failure (or success) prevents us from starting or completing tasks. Setting a big task that will take hours โ€” like building a landing page or coming up with a new offer โ€”increases the size of the wall of awful. ๐Ÿ‘Ž This makes initiating the task harder. Here's the thing, though... As Mark Twain once said, the secret of getting ahead is getting started. And the secret of getting started is breaking down complex & overwhelming tasks into small, manageable steps. Then starting on the first one. How do you do that? โŒ Instead of "Build my landing page" โœ… โ†’ Open a blank Google doc or notepad โœ… โ†’ Write down the goal of the page โœ… โ†’ Outline the section headings โŒ Instead of "DM 100 people" โœ… โ†’ Pick one person to DM โœ… โ†’ Draft a DM template โœ… โ†’ Send the DM โŒ Instead of "Promote my new offer" โœ… โ†’ Join one new Facebook group or Skool community โœ… โ†’ Write a single post talking about my offer

We got a divorce ๐Ÿฅด
Hey Founder famโ€”you may have noticed some big changes lately. Over the past few weeks, Rex and I have had a lot of honest conversations about the future of what weโ€™ve been building together. And after a lot of thought and careโ€ฆ Weโ€™ve decided to get a divorce ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ˜‚ In all seriousness, this wasnโ€™t an easy decision. @Rex Loyer and I are ending our business partnership. We have a lot of love and respect for one another, and Focus Founders wouldnโ€™t exist without both of us. I especially want to acknowledge Rex for the role heโ€™s playedโ€”helping me to stay focused when shiny objects hit (yay ADHD ๐Ÿ˜„), running the daily ETF co-working sessions, and bringing the Accelerator program to life. I appreciate the hell out of you, dude. Thanks for building this thing with me. ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€: Rex will continue building his coaching business under the Focus Founders brand name. And Iโ€™ll be continuing with this community, but evolving it into something new: ๐•‹๐•™๐•– ๐”ฝ๐• ๐•ฆ๐•Ÿ๐••๐•–๐•ฃ๐•ค ๐”พ๐•ฆ๐•š๐•๐•• ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ'๐˜€ ๐—š๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฑ? The Founder's Guild is the natural evolution of what we started with Focus Foundersโ€ฆ But with a deeper focus on what this has always really been about: ๐Ÿ‘‰ helping ADHD and neurodivergent entrepreneurs build businesses and lives that actually work for their brains ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜โ€™๐˜€ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ? I originally started this community before Rex and I met, as the ADHD Entrepreneurโ€™s Playground. My vision has always been to help ADHD founders lead lives they love. That is not changing. Itโ€™s still about: - The people - The energy - The mission of helping ADHD founders thrive If youโ€™re here, youโ€™re in the right place. We will also continue to offer the 5 AM CST virtual co-working sessions as well as the 12 PM CST in-person Thursday sessions in Austin. ๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜โ€™๐˜€ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด? - The name โ†’ The Founder's Guild - The direction โ†’ even deeper into ADHD, creativity, and building a business and life you love - The 10 AM CST co-working sessions will be paused until further notice.

What do you currently use to stay focused?
Curious what people are actually using right now. When you need to focus, what do you do?

@Bill Widmer Any and everything. I tend to hyperfocus if I'm interested in something but tend to eventually lose interest and losing focus follows
