Book recommendations
I had a quick look through the book recommendations and I was so happy to see Nicole Master's "For the love of soil_ on top. Nicole is one of my mentors and I had the opportunity to meet her in person in 2024. If you truly want to understand living soil she is the woman to listen to. I

@Ruan Welgemoed the number 1 tip is adopting a regenerative approach. Protect the soil microbes as much as possible.
Frozen pipes
I'm in the process of making vermi extract. It is a different process then making a oxygenated tea from the worm casts. I put the castings into a tightly stitched burlap sack the I use my power washer to knock the microbes off into a barrel. Extract can stay alive for up to 18 months. The problem being is the water in my well has frozen solid so no water 😔😔😔 Anyway the joys of worm farming in Ireland🤘

Heating a greenhouse
Not sure if this is real or not but looks like a great idea to keep a greenhouse or even the soil warm. What do y'all think?

My uncle has let me take over his greenhouse and at the moment in Ireland it is very cold because unlike America and Canada the air here is full of moisture. So our temp has dropped to -4c or 24 F. I have a wood burning stove in the greenhouse. I use a new type of fuel that has been developed in Ireland. A company called Arigna buys in Olive stones and turns them into a carbon neutral fuel using pyrolysis.
Walking wedge worm farming
Walking wedge worm farming is a horizontal continuous flow through method. You start feeding the worms on the inside and work your way across to the other side. The worms follow the feed stock so what's left behind should be relatively worm free nutritious vermicast. High quality worm compost should be like putty, it should stick together and crumble easily in you hand. At that stage you dry it and the sieve it. #savesoil

@Jim Flach yeah, I have a friend who moved from California to Ireland with his Irish wife. He makes the mushroom blocks from scratch and once they've finished growing I take them and grind them up into a powder and add them to my frree stock. I use European night crawler worms and manure worms. They are very well adapted to the wet climate here so I can keep the feed stock out in the rain

Soil and Me
Hey everyone I'm Eoin (oh-in) from Ireland and I make living soil and vermicast on a little farm in County Laois (leash) Ireland. I have been studying and researching soil ecology and agroecology for the last 6 years. My goal is to save soil. Soil is humanity's number one resource and it's disappearing at a faster rate than it can be made. Without healthy living soil we cannot survive. I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone here. I'm @earthbuddyeoin on socials #savesoil
