In the backyard tonight with a cigar going and this combo could not be more fitting. Zaharoff Tabac brings that boozy, sweet tobacco base, cognac and rum up top with honey and oud in the middle, drying into vanilla, amber, and myrrh. Warm and rich on its own. Layered on top of that is the Boond Tabaq attar, a traditional Indian tobacco attar handmade in Kannauj using old world methods, no alcohol, no synthetics. It adds a darker, smokier, more animalic edge that pushes the whole thing into a different territory. Together this is a heavier, more complex tobacco experience than either one wears alone. With the cigar smoke in the air, this pairing is exactly what tonight called for.

1. Spray the back of your neck. This creates a scent trail behind you and helps with sillage without constantly putting the fragrance directly under your nose. This is one of those little tricks that can make a big difference, especially with a fragrance that has decent projection. When I spray the back of my neck, I’m not putting the scent right under my nose where I’m constantly smelling it all day. That helps cut down on nose-blindness, which is one of the main reasons people think a fragrance has disappeared when everyone else can still smell it. The other thing I like about this placement is the scent trail it creates. As you move around, the fragrance comes off the back of your neck and follows you instead of just sitting in front of you. People walking behind you or passing by can catch it, so you get better sillage without adding a bunch of extra sprays. For me, it’s a better way to use the fragrance you already put on instead of just overspraying because you can’t smell it anymore.

This is Argos doing a fresh fragrance without making it smell like another generic freshie. Right out of the gate I get that bright citrus and juniper with the cardamom giving it a little spice. As it settles, the tea, orris and saffron start showing up and give it more depth than I was expecting. Then you get that clean, woody base of cypress, cedar and musk. Fresh, aromatic, slightly spicy and very polished. It has that niche quality I look for, but it’s still extremely easy to wear. Performance is strong too. I get very good projection and sillage, especially during the first few hours, and it has enough longevity to carry me through a good part of the day. For a fresher fragrance, it definitely doesn’t feel weak. For Arizona, this is right in my wheelhouse especially when I want something fresh that still has some character and doesn’t disappear into the heat. . Longevity: 6-7 hours . Projection:About 2-3 feet . Sillage: Moderate
