Two Hidden Side Effects of Making Your Own Healthy Desserts That Make You Lean and Healthy
I'm guessing that you've had the pleasant surprise after joining Path of the Dragon that I frequently share recipes for alternative healthy desserts in the Dragon Fuel category. Of course the desserts have the benefits of healthier ingredients, lower calories and the freedom of customizing to your own taste. But there are two scientifically-backed reasons why I developed the habit of baking and cooking my own desserts. The effect is enormous, because the habit makes it much easier for me to stay shredded and athletic! @Bill Hazelton @Mike Pirie @George Alexandrou @Salim Albitar @Anthony N @Asha Hope @Braden S. Watt @Laura Sura @Jeremiah Hance miyou guys will love it 1). I actually burn more calories by cooking my own food rather than intense training. This sounded ridiculous to me. But the body uses 30% of its daily energy expenditure on Non-Exercise-Activity-Thermogenesis (NEAT). And that includes any movement you perform other than exercise. For example, walking from your office to the outside, climbing stairs to retrieve something from your bedroom, going to a physical store shopping, and of course, peeling potatoes, cutting them, mashing them and baking them to make your own dessert. NEAT burns more calories than intense exercise because even the most intense and strenuous exercise uses only up to 25-30% of your daily energy expenditure. And for me specifically, I train for hours, but my training style is low volume high intensity sprinting, jumping or weightlifting. I would perform one set of 80 meters sprint full speed and the rest for three minutes to let my nervous system recover make sure the quality of my next rep is high. And I would perform a set of 2 power cleans that are 1.3x my bodyweight, then rest for three to four minutes so that I can feel fresh for the next set. So even though I spend hours at the gym, the calories burned would probably account for 15-20% of my daily energy expenditure.

The NEAT thing is very underestimated - most people don't realize how much standing and moving around actually adds up throughout the day. Three weeks of zero carbs sounds brutal though, especially when your training started suffering. The homemade desserts approach makes sense - you control the ingredients and get some kitchen movement in the process. What's your suggestion for time-constrained people like myself?

@Mark X Love your 'Inspirations sometimes come from movements' idea. And your comment about body awareness is such a huge deal in wellness overall. Great stuff here brother. I think we've all been guilt of intuitively eating too many calories at one point or another 😂
Welcome Our 1st Completely Organic Member George Alexandrou
George! Welcome! I'm so glad to know that you not only joined our community, but also discovered our community completely on your own! @Bill Hazelton @Mike Pirie @Anthony N @Jeremiah Hance @Laura Sura we have our 9th member now, including me. George shared his favorite food, which is a traditional Greek dish called souvla. Honestly it looks amazing to me! I would eat it for main meal if I know how to cook it properly. And George you will be pleasantly surprised that I post a lot of recipes here under the Dragon Fuel category! I try to make healthy meals with clean ingedients. Let me know your dietary preferences, so I can include variations for your exact needs! For example, I usually use low-carb high-fiber substitutes to hamburger buns or burrito wraps. And I use chicken breast instead of pepperoni for homemade pizza. Please tell us a bit more about yourself! For example, how long have you been working as a full-stack dev? Did you study computer science in college? What are your biggest goals for health that you feel comfortable sharing? So happy to have you join us! I look forward to seeing your comments and posts in this community!

Purple Sweet Potato Taro Cake
This is one of my best tasting recipes that doesn’t require any additional syrup or add-ons like chocolate to taste good. And that’s because of the natural aroma from Purple Sweet Potato and Taro. Let’s begin! Steam peeled purple sweet potato and taro for 25 minutes, crush them into mashed form Add two eggs One spoon of almond flour Chunks of fat-free Greek yogurt Mix thoroughly Air fry at 340F for 25 minutes @Bill Hazelton @Mike Pirie @Asha Hope @Anthony N @Jeremiah Hance @Laura Sura Have you tried purple sweet potato or taro before?

My Lunch Recharge
I’m having chicken salad with cheese and Romain lettuce. And a bowl of egg whites too soup with cucumbers, dates and some salt and pepper. Prior to this meal, I had some of my banana a protein cake for after workout quick replenishment. 1-to1 ratio of protein to carb works for me inter ms gaining strength while staying lean. Even prior to that, I started drinking protein shake with milk mid workout to kick start recovery. It keeps me hydrated as well. How do you guys recover after a workout or physical activity? @Bill Hazelton @Mike Pirie @Asha Hope

Keto Pizza 🍕
This is my first try with @Anthony N ’s suggestion on theflexibledietinglifestyle ins account. Instead of going with pepperoni in his recipe, I use chicken breast. And I skipped the pizza sauce. Also, he uses burrito tortillas, and I use keto tortillas. The result tastes really good actually! The combination of egg whites on tortilla makes the otherwise bland keto tortilla taste enriching with a subtle aroma from the onion and scallions I put in between. The smiling cow cheese really shines here by adding the creamy texture to what would otherwise be pretty dry feel after air frying. And I put in mozzarella too. If you like subtle taste from real food, this keto pizza is really good! @Bill Hazelton you might like this one because of the use of egg whites with keto tortillas. @Mike Pirie do you like pizzas? @Jeremiah Hance @Laura Sura what do you guys think? So here is the recipe: Warm the pan with your oil of choice. I use oil condensed from pork fat. I’ve found it to be good for my hormone production. Has a nice taste and aroma too. Pour in egg whites. Let it sit for a bit with medium fire. Spread some sliced onions and scallions. Place the keto tortilla on top of the sheet of egg whites. Wait half a minute, then flip the whole thing. Wait another 30 seconds, take the whole thing out. Now you can simply put chicken breast and cheese of your choice on top. You can fold it like I do here. Then place the wrap inside air fryer at 400 F for 6 minutes. You can actually stop before that if the keto tortilla becomes too crisp. Enjoy!
