Datamarts "unified" with Fabric Data Warehouse 🤣
Datamarts have met their inevitable end... after a 3-year Public Preview. Read more here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/unify-datamart-with-fabric-data-warehouse/ The author of this article should go into politics! 😉 What are your thoughts?!

I am not surprised by this news. I was wondering when they would announce the end of datamarts. It didn't seem to get much love from anyone
Understanding Power BI
Hi there, I am new to Fabric and Power BI - I've only ever used Excel/word. I am trying to understand how to use Power BI on Fabric, however, all the YouTube tutorials I watch focus on other features in Fabric or another version of Power BI. I try to follow the other Power BI tutorials but the layout is different to how mine looks, and as I don't have a basic understanding i am finding them hard to follow. Can anyone help me get a basic idea of how to us Power BI on Microsoft Fabric? or point me in the direction of a video series/channel, or any other material that can help? Thank you :)

@Jazmine Alexia My first suggestion is to download Power BI desktop and create some basic reports locally. Key to using Power BI is dimensional modelling and star schemas so google those 2 terms and get some fundamental understanding of those 2 concepts. The naming conventions in Fabric is very confusing for first time users. 'Microsoft Office' includes Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc. Similarly Fabric includes Notebooks, Pipelines, Lakehouses, Warehouses and Power BI. Just like Excel or Word can be used on their own without any other Office software that is the same with Power BI and Fabric. So think of Power BI as a component of Fabric and is the visualisation element for all the data that has been processed by the other components in Fabric. Not sure if you are trying to use the Online Service to learn Power BI or Power BI desktop so there are some differences between the 2. Another thing is that Power BI desktop has gone through a few different colour changes since 2015 as well as bringing out a feature called On-Object Interaction which has a layout similar to Excel. Many videos may have been recorded with this setting turned off whereas your version of Power BI desktop has it turned on. See the link below for further info https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/power-bi-on-object-interaction

@Jazmine Alexia I suggest you start with the MS Learn modules to get an overview and basics https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/powerplatform/power-bi
Create semantic models in Direct Lake storage mode from one or more Fabric artifacts in Power BI Desktop
On the latest Fabric Friday livestream they talked about the announcement this week of creating semantic models using Direct Lake storage mode in Power BI Desktop whereas previously you could only edit a direct lake semantic model in desktop. In addition you can combine tables from multiple direct lake data sources as well as combining import and direct lake mode in the same model. Personally I think this is amazing especially the ability to combine tables from multiple sources. Whether you can combine multiple tables in the service or this ability is restricted to Power BI desktop only I don't know so I need to do some testing https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-gb/blog/power-bi-march-2025-feature-summary/#post-29214-_Toc193819897

@Will Needham to me this suggests that the capacity based pricing model is not working and has annoyed many big customers
