LIFE UPDATE...
My apologies for not being around as much lately. Here's why... The job search has been dragging out far too long. I was laid off on 12 March 2025 from my Quality Assurance Engineer role at ADT. Since then, I've submitted more than 100 resumes/applications for software test engineer, test automation engineer, quality assurance engineer, et al, roles. In response, I've gotten exactly one screening interview... that is, crickets. I've had a photography business since 2019 and was moderately successful at it, despite it being a tough niche, intimate portraiture, for male photographers. But it's been largely dormant due to illness, COVID-19, day job requirements, and lack of motivation, since late 2019. About a month ago, I decided it was time to make my own opportunity, rebuilding and rebranding my photography business. Around that same time, I saw an ad on Facebook Marketplace for a real estate photography webinar. I paid the $27 for the webinar -- the information disseminated during that webinar was worth far more than $27. As a result, I joined their coaching program and am working toward what could be a very lucrative real estate media company... Las Vegas Real Estate Media Solutions (LVREMS). I'm working fast to set everything up, renew business licenses, get additional business licenses, open a new business bank account, and learn the business processes and tools. It's now my full-time job (while still doing the minimum required by the State of Nevada to keep receiving my paltry weekly unemployment benefit until it runs out or I start making more through my business). I'm still around, reading everyone's posts, approving new members, writing new posts (when I think of something worthwhile), commenting on your posts, and, of course, playing guitar. I'm still around... just not as often. Thanks for reading... Stay Tuned... W I will have a few things to post soon... waiting on deliveries.

Hey Bill, thanks for opening up and sharing all that. You’ve really been navigating a lot this year. Job hunting in tech right now has been brutal for so many people, so don’t be hard on yourself. I think it’s awesome that instead of waiting for the “perfect” door to open, you decided to create your own opportunity. That takes guts and vision. Rebuilding and rebranding your photography business sounds like a huge step in the right direction, and it’s inspiring to see you pivot like this. Even if you’re not posting as much, just knowing you’re still checking in, approving members, and jamming on the guitar means a lot to me and the community. Excited to see where this next chapter takes you...Keep us posted on the progress with the new business!

I had a buddy that was doing real estate photography and one thing that he added that I thought was cool and unique was including a 3D tour of the property. Are you familiar with the Matterport camera? Might be worth checking out https://matterport.com/learn/real-estate-photography/exterior?srsltid=AfmBOoq6dQG6vV6jvFVlhmnEpSPD_jlk_zDWm9SHenN27AuhbIvj78Kh

Pedals
I’m looking for opinions for my grandson’s birthday present this year. He wants pedals. I’m trying to find the right pedals for a 12 year old? Do I go with some individual pedals or a single multi-effects pedal?? If I choose one or the other, which ones should I choose for him?? Opinions please!!!

Hey! Great question! For a 12-year-old starting with pedals, I’d lean toward a multi-effects pedal: it gives him tons of tones in one box, is easier to transport, and lets him experiment. I'd suggest taking a look at the Omni-MOOER GE-100. it’s fairly intuitive, good variety, and decent quality for the price. https://www.omniguitars.com/products/omnitone-fx-processor
Kit Bass
My son (15), has taken up playing the bass this year. He has excelled so quickly that he is now in a really good band. I’m very proud. For his birthday, I want to give him a bass I built. My question for everyone here is, have you ever built a kit bass? I bought a kit and have decided to upgrade the pickups to Seymour Duncan SPB-3 quarter pounders, Gotoh tuners, a Gotoh bridge and Seymour Duncan pots. I will line the electronics with copper tape also. I will be finishing it in heavy metallic flake purple (similar to the purple on old Road Runner cars called Plum Crazy). I want this to be a great bass for him. What am I missing or not considering? Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!

That sounds like an amazing gift. He’s going to love it! Your upgrade choices look solid, only thing I’d double-check is fretwork and setup since that can make or break how it plays.
Your First Riff: What Got You Hooked on Guitar?
Share the first song or riff you learned to play and how it made you feel. Did it spark your love for guitar?

@Christopher Deimler That’s such a cool story—and honestly, super relatable. It’s wild how not being shown the rest actually pushed you to start creating your own music. That first original song spark really does hit different. Total game-changer when you realize you can express what’s inside through your own riffs. Love that, man! 🔥

@Christopher Deimler Yeah perfect pitch is a very hard skill to develop. Some people are born with that ability, but I'm like you. I need to work it out by noodling around on the guitar.
