We win or we learn - lessons from this weekend
Reflection and hindsight is often a great viewpoint and taking the time to decompress after a difficult loss is where the greatest lessons often hide. Starting with the difficult loss. I was playing in the triples and we lost semi final to the current UK world championship squad. We went ahead and were in control but I missed 4 shots in the middle to let them slowly get back into the game. My pointing, normally a great and solid part of my game was lacking on such difficult terrains which exposed us more and led to a lack of belief in my ability to perform. I struggled with the communication issues and the fact that I thrive on positive communication and encouragement but this isn’t part of the French way. So my No.1 lesson is I have to be my own cheerleader and not get discouraged if I’m not getting the appropriate support I am used to. I also have to work on my lob and believe that I am capable of playing that shot as when I executed under duress I did play good points. Today’s singles was a different matter as singles can be an evil game. I won against the young Manche shooter who is like a machine and topped the league with 3 wins. I went into the main and played a 95% perfect game with every shot a perfect carreau and sublime pointing. Win that game 13/1 to go into the last 8. Then got out on the most difficult piste against a former partner from Algeria and an outstanding player. I lost to the terrain first and then the player. This is where my game needs LOTS of work to be able to compete on awful terrain and with confidence. In general I was happy but there are always lessons and to go from playing world class boule to a huge disappointment and loss is difficult and will need work.

I recognize the part with positive communication. I had a game partner once who became silent when i played bad. That became stressful for me. And made me play worse. When we talked about it a bit later I understood that we were just different. I needed positive talk, or just more talk. And he felt he needed to focus more until i played better again. I dont think its anyones fault, but if we talked about stuff like this in advance then we would be able to help each other better.

@Kevin ORourke The more difficult terrain the more we need to rely on shooting. Defend ”worse” points. But if the shooting dont work it’s tough. Kinda strange,,, if its a easy piste to shoot at then you feel comfortable and can shoot more iron hits. Even if you may shoot 10-20cm short and get a good hit. But suddenly when its a more difficult piste, then its hard to shoot iron all the time. All in the head but i think many of us felt it sometime 😊. as far as i know its no stones or other obstacles in the air. But it still gets harder 😂

I’m thinking of buying a new set of boules this year
Just a quick poll, I’m thinking of doing video boule reviews for different brands and models and this would be valuable to me! I know @Paul Cornwell already bought some from me and MS which is great and shows my advice can help

@Thor Hestas hahaha, thats a really good question, sounds stupid. Its just so fun to try stuff. But one thing that i was looking for that ms2110 dont have is stripes. Just so tired of searching after my boule. But now i bought the tonR and i like them. Feels like 2110. And i put inscriptions on them 😎
Very interesting game with terrible tactics in my opinion
I file d this and would like you to watch the end from minute 32.40 just for that end and say what you would have done. I discussed this in depth afterwards and the teams just couldn’t agree as they were set in their mindset https://youtu.be/1wIAd3r1850?is=tmTFR_OuYbm28c1U

Ive watched it from 30min. And i agree. If its a hard pointing pitch like this, you have to shoot more. The round when they point 6 times is really bad. I had a hard time to see the position of the coch
but they really got cought in the pointing trap. In this cases in my team we could absolutely point one first boule. BUT we decide in forehand that we are going to shoot the next boule whatever happens.(if you dont end up nr1) in this way you dont get stuck in the pointing trap. So even if we hit a rock and it goes out of bounds, we will shoot the next one. Sometimes its just good to shoot a good boule like this and give the opponent a new opportunity to point a worse point the next throw 😊

@Kevin ORourke yep, if you have a boule 0-60cm from the coch. Just defrnd it by shooting
