Itโ€™s been 8 years
Iโ€™ve been working on a business that involves me writing books and promoting the books of others but Iโ€™m not successfully gaining awareness of my business or gaining customers. I donโ€™t know if the problem is in presentation, the fact that I donโ€™t have a following, or the fact that I havenโ€™t had the finances to advertise (even tiny ads (though I think Iโ€™ve done 2 or 3 mini ads totaling about maybe $40 towards them)). Outreach, marketing, and networking have definitely been my weak points. Because of this, I havenโ€™t truly been able to test if my business is viable (though others have been successful). Iโ€™m hoping being on Skool will help. I have to at least first get the people to me to know if it works. Itโ€™s been 8 years. Any suggestions? Should I keep going with the idea? I have a few childrenโ€™s books , a novel, and a friend who has a lot of books who I promote. Iโ€™m working on other books now. I just began to build a community for this yesterday.ย I did get a little feedback on it already. https://www.skool.com/sunjoy-books-7017/about

@Paulo Costa, The Roaster Thanks for the shou Paulo. @Stacee M you got some great responses in this thread. You're in the right place and you're off to a great start. My first question is, do you have more information on what the end goal of your ideal customer/client is? I'm having a difficult time understanding your niche.
๐Ÿ’ฐ Pitching tips for Premium / VIP members ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Premium (2 usd) and VIP members can pitch their services as a solution to the problems they point while roasting. They can also get tips with me privately to do better roasts. VIP will have me pitching for them along with other benefits. Here are some important tips: - Ansering with straight up CTAs without doing any roast first is not allowed. I'll delete your post and instruct you via DM on a better approach. I don't want this community full of self promotion spam. You gotta be helpful first. Lazy roasts without detailing what is wrong like "your website is ugly, contact me to fix it" are also not allowed. Show some value, gain some trust and than pitch. - Ask questions. A successful sale is 90% listening and 10% talking. When you develop a conversation, by understanding what the person needs and letting them talk, you earn their trust and also learn exactly how you can better help them. @Mona Weathers is great at that, check out what she did here. - You need to be level 3 to DM (I intend to keep increasing the levels as the community grows to avoid spamming). But you can use the comments to foward a website with your callendar so they can book a call, or an email, or an external page. - You also need to have good digital assets to gain trust. What are you going to link? Your website, your community, your callendar, your email? If they have flaws, if your email is not a professional one ( @yourdomain, not @gmail), if you don't have a formally registered business, than you will have a harder time getting clients. Submit your stuff to be roasted here, get improvement tips and apply them. I have a whole set of people to recommend and that will help you level up. - Feel free to reach out to me for more tips and feedback via DMs. That's part of the premium perks.

Poll Mondays: How are you getting most of your paid clients?
There are plenty of ways to get leads and clients, and most people do several of those. If that't the case for you, what piece of your flow is the most important for your business?

All of my clients so far have come from Skool itself but Iโ€™m getting back into doing YT videos and will be testing ads on my paid community soon. Iโ€™ve been monetized since week six of my community. For me itโ€™s a growing intentional system that builds each month.
Roast My Community Idea: YouTube Directory
If you think about starting a new community, use my link and gain a consulting call to set all up plus free premium access to this community, meaning you can use it to call people to yours. AND, If you start with a Pro Community right away, I'll give you free VIP! All with no additional cost to you! The YouTube Directory - Self promotion space for YouTubers. Anyone can post a video and choose a category for their channel. The idea is helping people who are just starting to get visibility on their channels. - Limited to one post a day, doing a CTA for their channel - The most engaged members get their channels pined at the top. Just like in here, this will be an incentive for people to be active and comment on other people's posts instead of just posting and ditching. It can be simpler than the way that I do it, and simply pick the top 3 members from the last 7 days in the leaderboards. It can be a daily thing, so each day you can take away the spot of someone who is in the top 3. - Paid members will have their channels categorized and displayed in directories at the classroom - 1:1 consulting calls and infoproducts for YouTubers can be sold as a one time purchase - Great potential also for affiliate marketing of editing software and gear for YouTubers and filmmakers. You can have a directory with the software and equipment you recommend.

It could work but itโ€™s really important for YT to find traffic for you because they find the right viewers and subscribers. The risk with something like this is people posting could get more views and subscriber but not the right ones. To solve this youโ€™d want to make sure people are instructed to only subscribe if they like the content and not to do a follow for follow model. Those are my thoughts ๐Ÿ˜Š

@Paulo Costa, The Roaster yes and a community like this should definitely be public. ๐Ÿ˜Š
FREE VIP ACCESS
VIP members get me promoting their work, doing CTAs for them and can have classroom content and do live calls here. So they are basically co owners of this place and can use it freely to grow their brand, with me backing them up. I'm willing to give one free VIP access to someone. Here are the requirements: - Win Roaster of the Week at least once. @Ruben Plasmeijer @Jack Robinson @Mike Tielemans @Gus Gray are already eligible for this. - Refer the most ammount of people (starting from now, not after you win RoW). The people referred only count when they stop being lurkers. - After winning, provide me one piece of classroom content that will be valuable to this community. Right at the start of this community I gave free VIP access to some people who helped me a lot here, like @Eliot Payne @Shannon Boyer and @Mona Weathers . I'm already getting so much from some new people here that I want to help them further too. So this is an opportunity for that. I'll give the free VIP access by the end of the april. So 5 more people have the chance to win Roaster of the Week and compete.
