It's been a journey so far for me this year and just wanted to share a win. My flight got cancelled going back to the US on Nov 4th from the Philippines due to Typhoon Tino. I was supposed to be back for work that week. I spoke to my manager about working remotely using a VPN to connect to our servers and she agreed to give it a shot. Fast forward to now, I am back in the US. I asked my manager if I can work remotely from the Philippines and she agreed to it finally! My one way ticket back is on 12/8! Yee!!

Hey Everyone, thought I would share this to demonstrate a lot of these policies are don't ask don't tell. I started using my VPN, since I had forgot one day and I haven't had an issue in over 6 months. However, today a new security team must be checking logs closer. They were able to see I was from an outside IP. My manger knows I am overseas, but the new security team didn't, and it is always best to not draw attention to yourself. They honestly don't care, but triggering alerts makes more work for them, and might put them in a tough position if higher ups decide to be more strict. Close call.. Definitely using my VPN from now on.
