Conflict often starts because we fill in the blanks.
- Spouse is quiet ... "They are mad at me."
- In-law makes a comment ... "They think I'm a bad parent."
Brené Brown gave us this golden phrase: "The story I'm telling myself is..."
Before you react to the "Them" or the "We," check your story.
Instead of attacking, try saying: "Hey, you've been really quiet tonight. The story I'm telling myself is that you're angry with me. Is that true, or are you just tired?"
9 times out of 10, they are just tired. Don't let a made-up story ruin your reality.
