This subject came up today when our daughter asked her mom why she doesn't have school today.
Her mom explained that it was Martin Luther King Day, and how he stood in the face of hate with love and conviction. In other words pushed back outright and systemic racism, both loud and quiet forms.
"What's Rasicm?" my daughter's asked.
How my daughter's mom explained racism to Adala hit me in my core...
"It choosing to hate someone for something they can't control."
Adala sat back for a moment and said, "That doesn't make sense... I'm glad I'm not that way". 🥹😭🥹
Her mom and I shared the same sentiment...
"No Adala, hate doesn't live in your heart, I can't imagine it will ever find a home there".
This is the next generation.
Hope is real.
