A Reintroduction of Sorts
May I now please introduce myself? My name is Schmidty.
I started drumming when I was eight years old, when my father needed a drummer for his garage band. I took a few lessons at this place, but it was not until I connected with this mobile drummer that I really learned the groove. I learned how to count, hit and fill it. The 1234, quarter, eight and sixteenth note. The single, double and paradiddle. The foundation of a rocking blues song.
When I was 14, I was learning the bass, and it was bassy, get it? The first tune for me was Money by Pink Floyd. Other simple tunes, such as The Joker, Can't Ya See, and Sweet Home Alabama nearly followed. Another hit tune I learned and grooved to was Play That Funky Music White Boy.
At 17, halfway through Grade 12, I finally picked up the guitar and started exploring it, wondering about it. Initially, it looked exciting and maybe addictive with the frets, wood and other aspects, but I did not know the pull it would bring when I started playing it.
For the last nine years, I have played almost every day, working on it, practicing it, becoming better and advancing myself. From fretting technique to picking technique to song structuring technique, I do everything.
This summer, the summer of 2026, I will be releasing my first official album, known as Something About Sailor, produced by the lovely dude who founded this community.
