Trying this Weekly Prompt 1
(I am the worst at not editing as I go, so I didn't get as far as I wanted, and had to remind myself to stop wasting time fixing little mistakes... but this was fun!)
Susie’s mother walked out the door for the fourth time that day. She patted her precious Susie on the head, grabbed her purse, and waltzed out the front door, keys in hand, but before she pulled the door shut behind her, she turned to look her beautiful girl in the face.
“Promise me, Pumpkin,” her mother said in her lilting, song-like way, “Promise me you won’t open the door at the top of the stairs.”
Susie nodded, her blonde curls bouncing with the movement. She listened as the car roared to life and growled down the driveway before disappeareing down the road. She tiptoed to the window to see for certain that Mother had actually left. Then, still on her tippy-tippy toes, she crept up the stairs, stopping only a moment when the stair beneath her groaned a warning.
