Different Perspectives
This past week I have been told by my family that I need to have a concrete plan in life and need to have a 9-5 job for a predictable income. I’m 56 and this is what I’m getting preached about by 58-60 year olds who don’t think my choices are acceptable. Yet they have all worked almost 40 years, full pensions, and are worried about money because they are newly retired. I plan on vanlife and exploring North America. My daughter runs 2 campgrounds so 6 months of the year I can help her in a beautiful mountain environment in British Columbia. For me, I think this is perfect. They think it’s homelessness. I would never be able to do this life I’m choosing with a “normal job” with 2 weeks vacation a year, or paying over $2000 rent each month. My kids are adults and independent - if not now, when? I have my health, I have a sound mind (according to me, not them). As Jamie Kern Lima says, “You’re not crazy, you’re just first.”
This is the view at the campground. Hmmm…tough choice! Hanging with my kids in this location, or grinding in the city and never getting ahead.
