Making Hatred Powerless
Words I like:
Hatred is just someone announcing that you don't match their preferences. Once you see it that way, it loses its teeth.
Minute Read: Hate Translation
You will get hate from strangers, family, acquaintances, and your current “friends” once you start living your life differently. That’s a fact.
Not knowing how to deal with it can spiral you out of doing what you need to, to get where you wanna go.
Here's my best tactic for dealing with hate:
Translate everything into “They live their life according to their own preferences rather than mine." That's all hate really is. Someone stating you don't match their preferences.
Watch how it works:
  • "You work too much" = "I prefer to work less"
  • "You're too direct (aggressive)" = "I prefer people who are passive"
  • "You charge too much" = "I prefer people who are cheaper"
Once you see this pattern, hate loses its power.
Because some people will hate you for doing stuff. Others will hate you for not doing stuff.
Some will hate you for being yourself. Others will hate you for not being yourself enough.
And so, that hatred and judgement is a fixed cost of success and life in general.
You're going to get it either way. So you might as well do you and be yourself. At least then the hate is honest.
Hate is only a strong word if you give it power and allow it to be.
